It's like I said somewhere else, doing something musical for the game machines ensures a fresh approach. Like that Playstation MIDI guitar. Or even the preamp for a real one, to let you play Hero-style games that way.

And I'm so glad game companies still dabble on occasion. Meaning I should get off my backside, make a Microrhythm drum pack for Kontakt, then play it with the Playstation MIDI pads.

Just as a nod towards CM, google are offering free copies of certain mags this month as part of their new 'Newsstand' app. So anyone with a google account or android device can grab a free copy of Computer music this month. Then go to the Futuremusic website and download all the associated plugins for this month.

I grabbed 'Edge' too. Worth a read as Canadian games/retro mags just plain suck!! There's something so damn clinical about all the mags here. Its almost like asking your dad/grandad to explain something. All the info is there, but it just lacks.. I dunno, soul?

Anyways, might be useful for somebody, just thought I'd share the joy.

I notice tape emulators seem to be hitting their stride, especially the J37 one recently out. I'll have to find demos somewhere to compare to my Tascam 34, and the 1/4 inch twintrack I think I'll be getting. Especially if I can mix and match.

I suspect a gap may be close. Even the Tascam made old Beatle CDs sound airier than the remasters. And this may be the J37 but much can be lost in translation. Still, amazing how computers can mimic other appliances all the same.

...And I'm glad the online back issues are there. Some DVDs stopped reading in months and I'm sure I would have been annoyed had I not backed mine to USB drives after purchase.


Plus you're well on the way with those plugins, as mentioned. 197's features SKnote snap, which easily cuts high-end snap of imperfectly recorded snares and such. Could've really done with that a few years back.

I usualy use vst's from Native instruments. I realy love them all but especialy massive.

Many of them are really good. I would suggest checkout the ones that are labeled as free samples of paid preset-packs. They are usually more polished.

My favourite synth is Predator, just LOVE IT! It's my to go synth. Using Reason though that doesn't allow vst's but Predator is ported to propellerheads Rack extension format

my favorite VST is "VSDS-X" by a guy called ""Aly James" its a simmons drums analog VST which produce great 80's drums sounds, you can choose custom preset or make your own PRESETS. the sound is really good one and i use them a lot ! i cut off all the drums samples i had.
