LANDFILL SEQUEL: Bodge-It-Myself junkholders

I just can't sit still and it's great having adventures with scrap again, improvising free studio equipment to avoid any more spending.

A cut-down carousel stand, easel with no top, boom arm with no fixture and incomplete mike cradle all avoid the bin when I'm around.

The Reading Association For The Blind threw away an easel and book stand this time, for some reason. So cue me grabbing them and taking them home to do something with them. Anything really.

The cello trolley sets the instrument at just the right height and stops it rolling over if I have to set it down. And I could also make a five-harmonica holder by putting them to a longer length of wood and attaching that to the easel.

And I suppose that cello would also see the inside of a tip had I not performed all that surgery on it. I think it's just the recreation of making do and mend to save tons of cash.

That place has been good to me. I had their perfectly good music stand the other month.

There. Four stand parts used: an old hihat base, dripfeeder stalk, easel fixture and boom arm tied on.

And so unobtrusive.


Never overlook that roadside junk. You may save a whole host of money on wallet-busting stands, especially in combi.







And guess what can also hold a cymbal, with help from that doorway signpost Dawsons chucked away, ironically.

For what it all is, I'm astoundingly lucky. I've often found good sturdy stands can cost as much as whole pieces of gear. No wonder I flaunt 'em.

You know, it's not even that. Stuff just falls in my lap and it's better than the Wombles.



Look at this. Going through my stuff I found another mike holder I forgot existed, made from a broken tripod.

I collected all those pipes and things and I still can't believe how so many bits fit together, as if made to measure. Especially the telly I mounted on that old DVD carousel base. I just have to post 'em.

I thought I'd merely sample them at one time. But they're also good to put cable spools on and allsorts.

I mean, look at it. I kept back this next pipe when my waterworks were being done. I'm sure I can stick something in it.

So often I'd need a special stand and have to jerry-rig. Now I'm in the habit.
