Marauder... Again.

Post by Maindrian »

I tried, really I did, but my remix of "Marauder" by Barry Lietch has gone a bit tits up. I would never submit a remix I wouldn't want to hear myself, therefore I scrapped it. :(

So, I know I've asked this before, but does anybody fancy remixing this one. Come on guys, overlooked classic here. The ingame theme. Check it out.

And by the way, a remix of "Scout" wouldn't go amiss either.
Great, another set of strings ruined...

Barry Leitch songs are awful, I didn't like them.....and
he stole a song from Sisterhood/Sisters of Mercy...

Battlefield isn't his own song, it's 'Giving Ground' by Sisterhood.....

..anyway, Maindrian try to cover something else, I really like your
remixes... you've got your own style....

They are aweful on the c64 yes, even Barry admits that quite openly. His work on later machines were far superior.

regarding he did a cover of a song? well hasn't everyone here?

Ahh i see, well i've spoken about the past with Barry many times before. He knows that period of his youth was a silly time. Gosh! I've certainly done much worse than that during my youth. Things that'd make your hair curl i'll tell ya....(wouldn't make mine curl anymore since it waved bye bye long long ago ;)

ain't this all water under the bridge now anyhows!

Actually I agree with Mainy. That particular Leitch tune is a classic.

Yeah, I'm fully aware how popular Barry Lietch is around here, but I still think Marauder is great. It hasn't been done before too, so it would be interesting to hear. Not like I'm trying to twist any arms here.

Subtune 2 from Marauder, the ingame theme. A very dark start with those pounding bass notes. Crying out for an epic film-score/orchestral mix.

If you read Barry's comment in the STIL:

Marauder was probably the best thing Barry did on the C64 IMHO ...

Plus it features an extract from the Assault on Precinct 13 theme by John Carpenter - one of my fave tracks ever, ever, EVER! Which leads me to ......

Trivia point - I gave FeekZoid the Assault on Precinct 13 loops that he featured in his superb Platoon - Tunnels (Apocalyptic mix) 8)

Marauder

Just wanted to point out before anyone else does.
Marauder's a bit of a mish mash of a couple of peices,
one of them being assault on precinct 13, the other a rare Sisters B-side.
I was simply trying to create an atmosphere that the other guys liked for the game using example pieces, they decided I should stick with what I had.
Carpenters Fog was a big influence too, I think I have some god awful electrosound files somewhere trying to create the atmosphere ;)

Battlefield was done in 2 days, the whole game, code, art, music., and for the whole game we got paid $275 quid so we wouldnt get thrown out on the streets, so forgive me for not taking the time to compose something completely original, I didnt expect it to be the critiqued 15 years later.
If I remember correctly the end credits were inspired *coughripcough* from the Phantasm theme.
Kudos should go to the guy who took the time to make a midi file of it though too, painstaking work to do by ear with my awful 64 sounds ;)

Vangelis, Jarre, Larry Fast, Phillip Glass have all been borrowed from heavily in early 64 music, I was just stupid enough to try and do guitar stuff when I shoulda been focusing on synth ;)

Anyways, I'd love to hear how far you got with Marauder Maindrain.
drop me an icq msg.
