Dear friends,
This is Sarah, Ben's wife. For those of you who don't already know I am deeply sorry to pass on the news that Ben died very suddenly on Monday morning. We know that it will come as a shock to you as it has to us. we are all at home feeling loved and supported, and our thoughts are with all of you who knew, loved, got irritated by and were lucky enough to have a little bit of his magic in your lives. I'll post details of what's happening as soon as we have sorted everything out.

If you would like to share any photos or thoughts with us, please send them to bendaglishphotos@gmail.com - we would love to hear from you.

Sarah, Jake, Rhianna and Lottie xxx

Like many others, I became an admirer of his music back in the early 80s. I lived behind the Iron Curtain at that time, in Hungary, and I was in awe of his music when playing The Last Ninja, I listened to his tunes from the W.E.M.U.S.I.C. demos probably a zillion times, and I smiled whenever I heard his Krakout game music. But back then, he was just a name behind the music for me. I had no access to Western magazines, so I had no idea how he looked like, I had no idea about his published interviews, I had no idea who he was as a person - all I knew is that "Ben Daglish" stands for "fantastic music".

That all changed when I had the privilege of meeting him in person in 2001 at the first Back In Time Live event. I was so excited to meet many of my musical idols at that event! No, not some famous 80s pop musicians - my idols were people like Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Tony Crowther - and Ben Daglish. And suddenly, he was not just a name to me any more - he was a fun, energetic person, full of life!

I met him two more times at two additional BIT Live events. Each time my admiration of him as a person kept growing. He knew how to have fun, how to get a crowd excited - and besides being a true entertainer, he was also an excellent performer of music!

But now, we are left with this giant void in his place. I do not know how I will ever be able to listen to his music the same way again...

He leaves a magical legacy behind as one of the true pioneers of computer game music. I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to meet him and hear him play live multiple times. His spirit and his music will no doubt live on in our hearts...

...

Here are all the pictures of Ben I could gather from my archives, most taken by me, some taken by others. I couldn't get through them without tearing up...

Rest in peace, Ben. You will never be forgotten!

I was lucky enough to meet, talk and play with Ben at our Fastloaders gig in Camden two years ago when he joined us on stage. He was such a great, down to earth guy. He gave it all on stage and made that night very memorable for all of us who were there. I was looking forward to meet him again next week when he was supposed to join us again here in Norway. I know that he also looked forward to that very much. Bit 18 wouldn't be the same without him.

Rest in peace, Ben.

I am so sad to hear the news.

It was a real privilege to meet Ben at retro events over the last fifteen years, and to call him a friend. Even when he called me a stalker.

He was a really talented guy, but modest and funny with it.

I am writing a tribute to Ben for Retro Gamer magazine, so if you have photos or would like to make a contribution then please get in touch.
Let's give him a great send-off.

We attended Ben's memorial yesterday, and it was a good send-off for him - with laughter and music.

Representing the C64 and Amiga - Chris Abbott, Marcel Donné, Rob Hubbard, Tony Crowther, Mark Knight, Max Hall and Jackie Mason, with Jon Hare giving a short memoir about Ben's computer music.

Thank you for letting us know! I'm glad the C64 community was well-represented.

Sitting and thinking; wish, I had the money & the time to visit those concerts back then to experience the guy in the flesh. A true personality; even with just the little things here and there - music, postings & videos, he left impressions that made me curious. Now he's gone. Another chance missed forever. Fuck.
All is lost.
