The background to the story was that they
[Milli Vanilli, not Boney M] were offered to front the band by the producers when they were absolutely without jobs as "professional" dancers. They took the chance... and the risk. There was this one hour presentation on MTV where all their second thoughts and regret were aired and the rapid descent from stardom to rock bottom... A very sad story, really.
The Real Milli Vanilli... THEY had... ehm... another moment of fame...

On a sidenote: the still living half of the Milli Vanilli front guys currently has his second 15 seconds of fame in the german version of "I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!"
