I appreciate that - indeed, it's as if the events actually benefit from the sheer dedication and selflessness of its performers and organisers. But similarly, it's a crying shame that you don't at least have a few extra quid in your pocket. I was awestruck by your Monty on the Run - I can't put a price on the way that made me feel.

I'm merely thinking of ways to get people who might not otherwise contribute to put their hand in their pocket and make a commitment.

Too many people talk about going but never do. I've been unable to attend the previous events for genuine reasons (as opposed to apathy), the only way I could show my appreciation was to fork out for some of the CDs. Next time, I personally wouldn't mind forking out £50 to go into the fund, and then the price of a ticket. Some people wouldn't do this, however, so maybe a profit-related incentive might persuade them to chip in some cash and drag more people along.

As I say, just thinking out loud. :)

1. Location - I guess there are pros and cons for each. I would have thought the UK, cost aside, was a good place because of the fanbase. Would there be more fans in Copenhagen, though?

-- Yorkshire :)

3. I like the idea of taking some of the burden from Chris, possibly installing a core team to handle different aspects with each entirely responsible for their own part.

-- Id be up for the design aspect, as i think would Kenz.

4. A centralised fund is a good idea. You could add an incentive in the form of a profit-share (i.e. if the event made a profit, those who contributed to the fund get a proportional percentage back). Of course, the key isn't to make money - just ensure that the event happens.

-- Told ya, DirectDebit £5 a month from members (cmon folks ... £1.20 a week !! - the ant in the BACKYARD can afford it !!) , that raises 12 grand right there...

5. More media interest. It would be nice to get the press more involved, and get a bit more support from the mainstream computer mags. Is it inconceivable to get a company like GamerTV involved, to cover the event? Or get interviews on local radio stations?

-- I agree with Chris... this has been tried and failed.

6. More corporate interest / Sponsorship.

-- As Chris is pissed with tulip, i too had a sponsor in the wings who basicly wouldnt commit.

7. Re-Branding. If, for instance, events such as Retrovision and BIT Live were combined to split the risk, you could encompass everything under a "Back in Time" brand name. Thus, you have Back in Time Live events, Back in Time Retrovision, Back in Time Jagfest, etc.

-- Mergers can help yes, but also double the cost ?

8. Why not hire a venue similar to that used by Retrovision, i.e. multiple facilities within strolling distance; team up with a venue or hotel to book the entire place for a weekend and get discounts on accomodation (having everybody in one place would also allow the pub-based chats to happen naturally, rather than have to factor them in to the schedule).

-- Now that sounds like an old style Amiga Demoparty !! :D PERFECT !!

9. Approach the event like a convention - hold it over 3 days, and have key events on different days. The first could be a retro / computer fair, the second day retrovision/jagfest, and the third day climaxes with a concert.

-- Now that sounds like an old style Amiga Demoparty !! :D PERFECT !!

10. Competitions - Remix competitions, with a panel of judges, demo competitions, gaming competitions.

-- Now that sounds like an old style Amiga Demoparty !! :D PERFECT !!

11. Naked women.

-- Now that sounds li.... ok, maybe not, but LOADS of PORN lol

You won't think that when you hear the recording without doesn't have the room acoustics hiding the wrong notes ;)

Personally, I quite like the idea of a subscription thing, giving access to recordings and other retro stuff not available to other people.... either that... or the donation system can work. I run http://www.fiddleforum.com It's grown to over 1400 members since Dec 2002. I own it, and pay for the hosting etc... but put two systems in place to try and get cash in to pay for hosting and advertising. Commercial and personal sponsorship. Commercial gives a link on the main page, a banner and the ability to run classified ads, and the personal one (for $1 or $20) gets a link on the main page... and it's managed to cover the cost of running the forum.

Fact - if people really are interested in something, then $10 a year isn't too much of a burden on them, and helps keep things running.

Idea... Each of the remixers with CD's allowed one of their recorded tracks available to subscribing members of the BITLive scene. It wouldn't really be of too much cost to them, and in fact could bring in more sales for them than offering nothing at all.... dunno... just a thought...

Matrix ---- Item 7... I'm sure, if you hire a venue for an evening event, it is less likely to be hired out for a day event. I would expect, after bargaining, a day event hire to cost approx 1.5 times the evening price.. ? May be completely wrong here.. just guessing...

Funny you mention the Amiga Scene... that's why we're thinking of Scandinavia as a location.

I miss the Amiga days .. also, i think me n u are on the same wavelength or sumthin - i just suggested to Chris via email that ppl only be given access to the streams if the donate something toward the cost of this Bitlive to help out.

Subscription is a nice idea - I've often thought that Kwed should be subscription-based, purely to ensure the site is always up and the download speeds remain fairly decent. A PayPal button and a request for donations isn't always effective - people never seem to get around to making a donation but will quite happily download. :?

I just sense a fair amount of apathy; our European cousins think nothing of making the effort - if you can call it an effort - to go to an event that will knock their socks off. And yet, how many Brits shrugged off this event for mundane reasons?

Certainly, it makes sense for the whole remix scene to collaborate, cross-promote, and join forces wherever they can. Too many people want this event to happen again.

I talked to Chris about me sponsoring a Thalamus remix competition, culminating in a CD release of the top dozen remixes, and this is something I'd still very much like to do.

Perhaps a little restructuring and innovation is the key here - and perhaps your subscription-based forum is the way to go. The scene can only survive for so long on fresh air...

Itll stop the shit from flowing in as only ppl confident they have a chance of winning would enter.

I thought of it ages ago, but never mentioned it for fear of backlash!!!! If a system where both Kwed and C64audio benefited, I'd be up for like... like I support Nectarine radio...

How about this.... Support BITLive and SID80's will play Knucklebusters at the next event.... ??? (haven't asked them yet but someone suggested it... and the track is totally SID80s it's unbelievable... it's so long... when we f**k up, no-one will notice..hahahahaaaaa
