USB 2.0 audio/midi interface card

I still haven't decided what product to order, so more suggestions are very welcome.

Well, i own a yamaha 01x, but i guess it's a little above the said budget.

I own this USB1 card : TASCAM US122

goodies : (2 input) 2 XLR, 2 Jack, MAC/PC Compatible, Midi connectors, not expensive...

I think USB1.1 (12MB) is enough for audio recording.
USB (even USB2) is a shit because it share is bandwith. With Firewire you have 400MB certified bandwith, this is the reason why they use it (and it's better than usb2) for video aquisition...

so if you use usb devices, disconect all other usb devices to reduce latency.

No no, i don't mean panorama. Unbalanced out has 2 pins (per channel): + and GND (as jack TS). Balanced output has 3 pins (per channel) : +, - and GND (as jack TRS or XLR).

I guess I hit lucky when I upgraded the box a couple of years box. I went for a MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum motherboard (nForce 2 chipset), which amongst the other niceties it features was an onboard VIA Firewire controller, so I've got three firewire ports via a bracket at the back of the box.

I've transferred footage from DV cameras (both with 6 pin and 4 pin connectors) and it's been spot on every time with no latency or failure.

These days quite a few PC motherboards are getting onboard firewire now, so something I'm definitely going to look out for if I decide to upgade the box again...

I've sold hercules and bought EMU1616 (more mobile

PCMCIA card. It's pretty stable.
The only troublesome thing is that i had to buy at the same time PCI adapter of PCMCIA cards -
but there wasn't any problems with installation both (EMU and adapter) on the desktop.

I read in a music mag a while ago that the future of Firewire is uncertain. According to this mag (I believe it was Computer Music), Apples new laptops are not equipped with a FW interface. And Apple was the company who developed the xfer tech. of Firewire.

I'm not sure what that means exactly, more than that the inventor of the interface are about to stop using it on their own products.

Personally I use a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile and a MOTU PCI-242 24i/o.
The first one works better than the later.
