Once you've got your podcast ready for export to MP3 in audacity, select everything (ctrl+a) and try 'fattening' the sound by applying Normalizer and Compressor (both in the 'Effects' menu, just accept the default settings) - in that order. Then export to MP3 as you normally would.

As for the putting yourself to sleep bit, try recording the podcasts when there's no one around. It does sound a bit like you're trying not to wake someone in the next room. :)

Thanks for the technical tip Jan, I will do exactly that next time. Maybe run a low volume track of a SID in the background, too.

Ah, you caught that (talking low), too? Yes, I think you probably understand my situation well now that you're married?

It's very hard to get alone time when my wife doesn't work and my daughter doesn't go to day care or school yet. But I will try!

Also important: Listen to your own podcast before publishing it. I know its tempting to just be done with it and get the stuff out there, but you'd be amazed by how much you can iron out by listening (preferably on an MP3 player) beforehand: low volume on vocals, backing track too loud, vocals only being on either the left or the right channel, etc. And since most of these can be fixed in post-production there's no need to re-record the whole thing.

As for the wife and kid, you could always send them off to the zoo. :D

A very good point. I've made the mistake of listening on my nice speaker setup with deep bass sound --- when listening back on my iPod I find the problems you indicated.

That will be my new method of test prior to publishing next time, for sure!

So Jan, I took your advice -- I think it sounds a lot better, but you can judge. :)

Still a ways to go before I sound as good as you or SubZero (will need to do a music PC sometime soon with Subby since he offered  )

This one is not the usual --- it's actually an audio book of my own original fiction with C64Audio.com background music, thanks to Chris Abbott allowing it! :worship:

You should co-host with Subbie (oops, SubZero) some day since you are both in England. We were going to do a joint podcast but it's hard with me being in Texas and a family/work life schedule.

Re: C64 Walkabout Podcast (now out with #10, Laser Squad)

Post by RobinsonMason »

Jan suggested Laser Squad, so LS it is!

I was fumbling around a bit at first, and it's a sort of "live play" (much like my first podcast on Ultimate Wizard so long ago) - but at least it was fun to make. As usual I'm targeting a sort of novice to intermediate level of user of C64 emulation with the intent of "spreading the Commodore (gaming) Love" as Jan would say, so if you're a master of Laser Squad and C64 emulation than this might be a bit basic for you.

If people like this "live play" style I have several more in mind.
