Love the (home-made) NES mouse... and is that Angie on the cover? 80s-tastic :)

Well despite that mouse being some kind of foam dummy, there's still great stuff out there, no doubt about that.

And for dawn of the 80s fun, check this out:

Quick start: http://www.sleepingelephant.com/v-web/b ... 7a2c2a#top

Such keyboard fun could see me finally have a VIC on my retro wall. Hell, if a SNES can make it up there just for the two notators on Mario Paint and Fun And Games......

You bet 'with sound and music'. I'd like to hear a single made with that.

And for another interesting record, look at Mighty Mighty Man: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROY-BROWN-MIG ... 35c99b84d7

It's the first record I'm aware of to be banned for licentious language.

And a much cheaper Bessie Smith race record.

No matter how young or old the stuff, it all meets the leveller of the great online garage sales. If they're lucky enough to survive to old age.

Makes you wonder if we have special stuff in our DNA making us care about things the rest of the world has long discarded... (though I admit 78RPMs aren't at the top of my nostalgia wishlist either... I guess it's those individual differences again...

Re: Reaping the Ebay harvest

Well I certainly think it's ironic that our First World is now so advanced that we can revert to using old stuff for art and pleasure. And there's a great spread of both outdated and retro stuff that we can revel in nostalgia, have use of genuinely great stuff which you can't quite get today or a little of both.

Best of the ages I suppose. I've certainly filled my place so much that I impose a usefulness rule on myself. Any machine on the retro wall must immediately have something to do in the studio, for example. Or I won't buy anything I'm not really really into now. Talk about over-consumption.

Though I made a loophole for spares. With only one serial fully operable for networking, I'm really after this particular A1200. It looks pristine from here, has a hard drive and is very cheap: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 1118329519

And after reading a meme website, I tried to find a stuffed animal as creepy as the Depression Dog.

Didn't.

Look, a smiley happy face:

I like that in a Revox.

He can record the way professionals do... lying on the floor in his pyjamas.

Another computer open reel machine. I wonder how to hook it to a 64? Anyone with a serial-SCSI converter let us know.

Even looking at that open reel machine makes me panic, for some reason. And don't get me started on the guy in his dressing gown...

Well let me take you back from the worrying tape recorder road and back onto the nice, safe retro video game console road...

Studio use edition.

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Guitar-Hero-W ... 2a2e932c21

This one has the sequencer mode with keytar, mike and drumpad compatibility. Not much in it but the step sequencer's fun and it's a cool novelty composing on your mere console.

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SINGSTAR-QUEE ... 2c70f8429d

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SINGSTAR-QUEE ... 3cd35f7999

And quality karaoke, still in its shrinkwrap.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Music-2000-Pl ... 3383da6249

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PS1-MTV-Music ... 5af276d0c2

£40 but you can have it. Should work with the mouse too: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Music-2000-fo ... 460e8c3909

Music Maker sequencer: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400521312402? ... 1497.l2649

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Music-3000-fo ... 46113d2742

Music 3000 mate, if you must have it all. Which I think I may.

Oh and the sampler:

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTV-MUSIC-GEN ... 56529d17db

Plugging emulated band equipment in the PS2 on top of taking sound sources, before mixing a composition and mastering via SP/DIF to your PC or CD recorder. The mind boggles at the splendour of keeping such old consoles going as rack gear. As tomorrow's 'chiptune' wonder relic.

Mega Drive modem.

Oh.

And a Sega Mega Drive LP:

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEGA-Mega-Dri ... 56520406a0

Ah.

I wanted so much to find a more pressing justification for having my Mega Drive on the retro music wall, besides Michael Jackson's Moonwalker with its samples built in. Didn't quite find it.

And for my own reference, the sealed Guitar Hero backup spares I still 'need' are 3 and World Tour. I've got 5 sealed in the box set but want another to open.

My god, are people like us really that anal?

JOB LOT OF 10 MATE.....

5: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Guitar-Hero-5 ... 337d28d1f5

And maybe a PS2 Action Replay, which also has handy utilities with it, plus Gamecube one for luck.

Well I've completed my PS2 Hero collection now. (Who's the MAN... (with 9 excess backups of World Tour)?)

Could still look out for controllers.

Standard red ones: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RED-OCTANE-WI ... 338255690b

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Play-Station- ... 1c34125938

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEATLES-ROCKB ... 3a829e6c31

I bought a beautiful Hofner one myself and I love to dig it out when feeling especially good.

Could consider this Kramer: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Playstation-2 ... 3383efcb2a

And CERTAINLY this stringed Mustang, doubling as MIDI axe when not in the game. If the Sony's in the studio, I could go whole hog and take things full circle as I did the MIDI drums for it.

Image
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROCK-BAND-3-W ... 1c2f2d70d6

Well, that's it. Electricity board rebate gone West with just one more purchase. Totally worth it.

And this looks nice.

Good price cuts waiting 'til they're out of date or put on special offer.

______________

So chaps here know I love the improvisation. Just as I had a 15ips capstan sleeve made for my Akai and was very impressed with what it could do. Rich, full, crisp sound with a 1969 affordable domestic unit, especially impressive when the 4000D could also perform 'tricks' like superimposition and individual twin-track modes on the stereo channels.

And even now, my dub of Written In Red by The Stranglers sounds very nice compared to stuff done on the proper Tascam 34.

Image

'Course, it wore the motor out. But for a 20 year-old, pre-Ebay me, I thought it was the only way I could have all that.

All hail it.

And just as I think I've got the Sony covered.....

Part game, part music thingy. Hmmmm.

And just for the museum, I could get the DJ Hero, though it's not my genre at all. It's cheap enough. And who knows, I could enjoy it if I play with it and I could even grab some samplings.

Though if I want something a little less superfluous, I could grab the keytar instead.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROCK-BAND-3-W ... 1c2bf969c9

As I'm sure World Tour takes a keyboard: http://www.rockband.com/compatibility

Cheap Ejay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/eJay-Dance-Ra ... 4610916845

Might as well.

I mean wow, look at it. And to suddenly get political from out of left field, there's a lot to thank Margaret Thatcher for. (So perhaps that should be out of right field.)

Can't find it on eBay (And probably wouldn't buy it if they did, just don't have the space), but I'm going to put this here because I used it for my very first recordings and I've got a soft spot for it!

I'm amazed my mum was able to afford one, frankly!
