...If this is the case, I hope that he will be slowly digging his own grave... and I find it weak of both Nelly and Timbaland, that they want to put their names to such a moron's doings... they may not have known it when they made the tunes, but if I'd have been them, I'd have protested openly when I found out... but I guess that the only thing that matters to that commercial HipHop scene is money.... and nothing else. In that culture the only thing that matters is how big your possé is, and how much bling bling you got... obviously artistic pride is nothing to them, or their view on what personal art is is really twisted... jesus!
After listening to that last link I gave I can only conclude, that if they call it personal art, to take someone elses complex tune, put on it a drumloop (probably also ripped from somewhere or taken of a sample CD) and dropping a few notes on a synth (that by the way to me sounds pretty lame, and not very artisticly skilled) then I'm not into art. And I'll go as far as to say, that the singing is not Timbaland's doing at all... it's probably Nelly who made the few "twists" on the melody to make the lyrics fit...
so all in all, what Timbaland did was to sit (with one finger style probably) and put a few boring synth notes in there.... that's it.... the music could have been done in a few hours... I bet the recording of the lyrics is what took the longest time to do... but then again... Timbaland say, that he's not a man with alot of spare time!.... afterall he does not have time to check with licensing... I bet he does not have time to make music either... probably he has more of an urgence to keep up the bling bling status
It's increddible that someone can earn that amount of money on so little effort, and it's a shame that his fans do not see this, and ditch him.
Personaly, as an artist, I feel, that when I do music that the more of others material I use, the less proud I am of my work unless that part of others work is used conciously, and it's meant that people should know others made parts of it (like C64 remixes for example)... I don't like using loops... and if I do I usualy mangle them to make them sound different... I use samples of singing once in a while, siply because I do not sing myself, and do not have access to any singers... but I don't like it actually
...but with HipHop culture such personal pride is obviously not present... it's the lyrics that play the biggest role there... the background is in most cases what I would call "Musical Patchwork".... and VERY BIG patches in timbaland's universe obviously
