Yep - I agree with this. Ease of use has to be the number 1 priority. Any program can be made to sound professional, it may just take a bit more effort with some than others.
The problem with ALL of these progs is that they seem to promise instant professional results, and when you don't get them, it knocks your confidence and you go off on a quest to find something easier/better/quicker.
Fact is, you need to get to know your software, learn the tricks and stick with it, otherwise (as Analog-X has found), you end up just learning how to use new progs and never make any music!
Reason DOES have a nice 'out of the box' sound to it though... (aaarrrhhhhgggghhh)!

Of all the sequencers out there, Fruity Loops has a bad reputation and nobody takes it seriously.
I dont mind it, however as I mentioned before you need to know a lot of these little tricks to get the program to do what you want.

That is what I'm trying to do getting to know the software and see if its what I want or can do what I need it to do. But that unfortunatly takes a lot of time which I dont have.
As I mentioned before, I like Fruity Loops but found it quirky, and requires tricks to make it work.
My next learning project is Abelton Live. I've got the demo on my laptop and will be going through the tutorials.
At least one good thing is, you can bring your favourite VST's along with you from one software to another.
Every piece of software or hardware is good. The software is worth as much as composer who using it.

Personally I like all the midi software sequencers --- fastest interface between my brain and computer (playing by hand).

Hello, well i just registered, and find this thread very informative. I'm using FL6 and lately have been fiddlin' around with Reason and now i love it! But im not using it as a standalone sequencer yet, instead i rewire it to FL and use the fl's sequencing method+some vsti/vst-s. But since DHS and Romeo are using Nuendo, i gotta give it a try! First sequencer was KCS on the Amiga.. After that Cubase for Win 3.1x.
Since 1999 I've been using Cakewalks sequencers (Pro Audio and then Sonar). Its not that I consider it to be the best sequencer in the world; Infact, its rather buggy and it has got some compability issues.
Either I am just very lazy (quite likely) or they got something in the software that works just like McDonalds work, ie. you get addicted to the shit (less likely).
You succeded in demolishing the communication setup, cutting off the enemy from rescue.
Ok, i used to be an AMIGA-Tracker.... never done music on C64, i just injoyed it.
As i moved to PC and had some MIDI epuipment, i used Cakewalk for some time. Then, as Internet moved by, i had a good luck to get a very cheap Cubase on E_Bay....
And i updatet it till today.
I had short shots on ACID, but it was to "uninspirating" and to "uncreative" for my. I like to fidle around with sounds and Controlers... so Cubase is right for me.
