Cheap sample binge

I've been on a bit of a shopping spree, for samples costing the earth just a decade back.

First I gorged myself on the Hollow Sun organ, which goes down especially well for £2: http://www.hollowsun.com/HS2/products/v ... /index.htm

He's got some free ones as well: http://www.hollowsun.com/HS2/freepacks/index.htm

Then some really cracking acoustic guitar to help my cheating no end. Fiver: http://www.sampleism.com/tdsamples/solo ... itar?sk=ls

I'll think about the chimes as I could do my own. Ethnic Flute I'll come back to though. Especially for £4.

Though I will grab the other free things, like the cello.

There is one tinge of sadness. A few more of the real things become a little more redundant with each coding miracle.

But then, there's more on here to cheer: http://www.pettinhouse.com/html/download.html

Total cost spent: £7. Virtual stuff gained: Music shop's worth of synths, nice drum kit and respectable strings, with session man quality. And at chip shop prices.

Just five years back I'd have struggled to believe that. I still thought real money would need spending.

I don't know how anyone still manages to write this stuff and still feed themselves...

Stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap I suppose.

Many are old versions sold as loss leaders and other people do it through love. It makes some professionals whine but computers weren't going to make everybody rich.

(Though I did find a couple of broken Zip files.)

And a few more. A good pick on here: http://www.soniccouture.com/en/free-stuff/

Plus a monster Drum Drops pack for £15: http://www.drumdrops.com/drum-samples/1 ... it/buy-kit

I've heard just a demo set on a Computer Music disc and can attest to the quality of even a pared-down one. In this day and age, you're not buying just some sounds but a proper range of virtual kits now. And kits which have to pull out the stops to stay ahead of the quality peanuts ones. (Which, in turn, keep the makers of EZ Drummer fighting to stay top whack!)

I've said it before but I'm truly gobsmacked at the quality these days. I wonder how many people have been tempted off the torrents due to the insane value in going legit!

And it gets free again too: http://rekkerd.org/freebies-for-native- ... s-kontakt/

...Not to mention quirky:

That's quality we waited to escape back in the day.

Lastly: http://www.protoolerblog.com/2009/04/09 ... r-kontakt/

You can even worry less about the quality. Even quite bad is acceptable these days, for lots of work. And perhaps the most impressive bit of all is that you can take the rest of your pocket money down the charity shop and be assured even an old PC from somebody's attic will do the job of performing this lot!

Talk about absolute value and totally convincing. Home computers have MADE IT.

Though in asking how people can do this kind of thing for free?

Another reason is, I suppose, they have to: http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/5-be ... -industry/
