Tsk. Where's the support for this?
Chris, perhaps you should actively intervene and offer your highly-specialised (chargeable) services when efforts such as this emerge, in order to help them succeed? Your (chargeable) advice could transform moribund projects, helmed by crestfallen erstwhile C64 notables - now ready to give up due to perceived lack of interest, into hyper buzz-trending, cash-magnetic, sniper-precise targeted socio-net marketing salvos. Or something. Perhaps this is all a bit "W1A" but stay with me on this... Case in point...
Here we have a respected musician of yore, poised to revisit his memorable back catalogue, all ready to give it a revitalising lick of contemporary audio paint (What? - Ed.) but it's obviously clearly obvious that the well-meaning person in charge of fund-raising is botching the campaign. Your (chargeable) help could get it back on track by combatting her ignorance at who to target/why they'd buy it/why it's special, thus enabling the right people who'd know the originals/why it's special/why to buy it, to buy it.
Only you, Chris, can (chargeably) steer the flow of information away from so many uselessly deaf ears, into the ears of the wallet-weilding hearing. Tell the World (of people who are interested) all about it! After all, remember the old maxim - if an erstwhile C64 notable is making a remix (in a forest, for profit) but there's no-one there to hear/buy it, does he/it really exist? I'm no expert, but your (chargeable) advice, directed at the Uncle's daughter (in this case) might consist of something along the lines of:
- Can we hear a few very short audio clips of any work in progress? Y'know, just something to reassure everyone that your dad is still alive and well
- Talking of which - where's your dad? Why haven't we seen him? Is he asleep?
- Is he OK? You're lovely and well-meaning and all, and we all admire your own personal portfolio of work, but we prefer your dad's stuff
- Is he up yet? Can you wake him and persuade him to talk into the camera just for a few seconds? Surely he's not so camera-shy?
- Why are the curtains closed in the afternoon? Does he have financial worries - constantly living in fear of approaching debt-collectors? Surely not.
- Is it all because he cashed a PRS cheque meant for David Lowe (the BBC News composer) that was accidentally sent to him in 2009?
- Come on. Admit it. The real David Lowe probably never noticed anyway. All this fuss over nothing. Move on...
- Give me £1500 and I'll tell everyone who needs to know that this project exists. You'll reach thousands more potential backers in days. Job done.
Sadly, I suspect - due to your professional instinct and (chargeable) savvy - you've probably already drawn a hopeless line under this lost cause, rendering it an irresuscitable dead duck. Never mind. Just be ready to (chargeably) pounce whenever the next (great-)grandchild(-ren) of other erstwhile C64 notables attempt to cash-in on something about which they know nothing. Kara Leitch, Zandra Bjerregaard, Kylie Hubbard, Kanye Cooksey... I mean, the list goes on...

I did help as much as I could (non-chargeable): redesigned the poster (non-chargeably) for better messaging, shared over and over, gave them some (non-chargeable) flyers for Re-Play....
The big mistake was making the orchestral thing part of the main funding rather than a stretch goal. That's pretty much wot done it. Everything else was survivable. They haven't done badly, in fact, considering.

Well, that was a thing.

I for one think that Chris did a commendable job at promoting the Dave Lowe kickstarter, both through his various social media accounts, and in the Project Sidologie e-mail updates. That being said, I have not backed the Uncle Art project, as I'm more of a C64 fan (obviously).
If you want to blame someone for this kickstarter failing, you'll need to look elsewhere.

To be fair, I didn't feel I was being blamed... more that I was being recommended

My (admittedly verbose) diatribe was meant as playful comment - just trying to liven up this moribund forum! No offence intended to anyone. Thankfully, Chris clocked my (so called) sense of humour and responded accordingly. That said, I stand by the sentiments I expressed: as more and more children/grandchildren of former noted 8-bit luminaries seek to exploit the family jewels they've unearthed, it takes someone like Chris to step in and steer them in the right direction. We're all anoraks and know what's been going on for the past decade and a half. It's no good shouting "Commodore 64 Music!" into an abyss, hoping to ride on the crest of a retro wave, just because you've noticed it's supposedly fashionable at the moment.
But anyway.
I look forward to having a tedious conversation with Chris politely curtailed due to a "sudden emergency" next month at BIT Live

You also wouldn't believe the shenanigans it takes to just to put on an Orchestral concert of C64 music. Sheesh

Good man. Well, "Good men" really. Sorry I didn't pick up on it being a playful comment. But good to see that Chris did.
Move along, everyone.
