Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that I've done a remake of Rob Hubbard's Thrust. You can download it at http://www.marcgirard.com/thrust/

Thanks, lemme know what you think!

Well, its nothing new, but goddamn is it ever speedy. I like the energy of it. Drums rock too. The whole thing is a shinier, happier Thrust.

On the downside the ending could have been a little better, but you can ignore me for that. I can never figure out an ending anyway, one of my weaknesses.

Overall. Thrust + Speed = A jolly happy result. Good work.

I kinda know it's nothing new, in fact, it's from 1985-86, so it's FAR from new, it's *OLD*, almost vintage. :P

The song is a loop so there's no way I could made a good ending. I wanted to stay as close as possible to the original.

You should read the MINI-FAQ on the web page, you'd know why it's so speedy. Thanks for the comments.

When I said it was nothing new, I meant the synth and guitar style of the remix. Ignore that statement altogether though, its grown on me since yesterday. Boy has it ever grown.

I was never a huge fan of the original, odd as it may seem. I kind of prefer this remix, and I especially like the summery rythm guitar that kicks in at 1:08. Very subtle touch there, but the drum break at 2:25 is my favourite part. Coolness. :)

Excellent, really like the drums. In fact, the whole thing reminds me of the classic Stoat+Tim "Thrust Concert" demo. I can just imagine a group of musicians playing this live on stage... oh wait, what am I talking about? It's already happened :D

Wow, you nailed it man! To me, Thrust is that demo... The two guys with DX7s, tapping feet and drummer playing with the two huge speakers. It was just recently that I learnt that a Thrust game actualy existed! Anyway, it's a great song and I'm happy that Rob himself gave me compliments. I posted them on the web site. Thanks for the kind words.

Well, this is indeed a very good cover. I certainly love the guitars, bass and the real feel of the drums. I have no issues with the speed of it, it sounds great to me and adds quite a bit of energy.
I like the way you handled the difficult opening of the tune, as it's regarded as quite tricky. Nice smooth chords back up the tune through-out - making for a very professional sound.
If there's one thing i'm not to keen on it's the synth that comes in at 1:10. It's not the best synth sound, but it's the sequencing that could be a lot tighter. Especially as you seem to have everything else 'nailed down' timing wise (not easy to do with live instruments!).
Other than that small gripe, this is excellent - and a really enjoyable listen.

Well, you know, I was like you before... Everything had to be perfectly in time! :) I'm not a fan of perfect timing (quantized to death). I kinda liked the twist of having it "free". It's not sequenced anyway so, I kept the first take that I liked. As for the sound itself, well, I'm a vintage freak and I like old Moog leads, that's just me... :P Thanks for the kinds words!

Wow, this was very good indeed. Just how I like remixes :) As true to the originals as possible, with modern sounds  Great work!!!

Thanks! I'm looking for another SID to do at the studio. I want to do a SID which doesn't have 284312 remixes done. I'm thinking about "To Be On Top" or "Big Deal". Any suggestions welcome! :)

Nice shot, your thrust version!
Only thing I don't like is that drum part from 02:25 - 03:10 being a bit too loud/dominant with a much too repetitious sequence... like your poor drummer suffered a sudden brain stroke on stage.
Don't want to sound harsh, I still like your remake. :)

hm yes, but that one is just a "sid + drums" version
