Radio Show Series Idea #5 - "Sounds Familiar"

Post by Chris Abbott »

Tunes on the C64 which are almost-but-not-quite covers of other tunes.

- Delta
- International Karate
- They Stole a Million
- Zarjaz
- That Daglish tune in the Benn and Tony Demo which is supposed to be Rydeen but isn't

Could also cover C64 covers aping other styles (i.e. like most of R64 vol 1!)

Also unauthorised covers:

Zoids
Yie-Ar Kung Fu
Master of Magic
I-Ball
That Yellow Magic Orchestral Song in "Way of the Tiger"

Followed by: Authorised covers (Sounds Familiar Part 2)
Short Circuit
It's a Kind of Magic
Neverending Story
Transformers
Frankie Goes to Hollywood
Airwolf
etc.

Followed by: Arcade covers (Sounds familiar part 3)
Yie-Ar Kung Fu in-game
Green Beret
Commando
Terra Cresta
Gauntlet
720
etc.

Followed by: Weird covers (Sounds familiar part 4)
Barry Leitch and Chicken songs
Shake 'n Vac (Agent X 2)
Geoff Capes Strongman
Sam Fox Strip poker
Winter/Summer Games

********************************
Demo covers (Sounds familiar part 5)

Covers from the demo scene

In chronological order, perhaps

****************************************
C64 covers on C64 (Sounds Familiar Part 6)

Covers on the C64 of other tunes (Matt Gray, Feekzoid, Jon Wells, etc)

Same name, different tune (Sounds Familiar part 7)

Tunes which are different to what you'd expect:
for example, LED Storm (Tim Follin's Atari ST version ported to the C64), Paperboy (different to the arcade), Shadow of the Beast (different music on the C64?), Arkanoid (first appeared as Cobra on the Spectrum), etc, etc.

* phew *

Well, good luck!

Mmmm, could I bagsy this one for me & Boz? I've actually been toying with the idea of doing a radio show based on classic C64 tunes that were actually covers but haven't had the chance to record it .... Until now. :)

Would be awesome if you'd do a show, Kenz!

If you record it, we'll make sure to air it. Or, if you want to go live that can be sorted as well. ;)

It will probably be pre-recorded as I'd wanna inject some Xmas Chortles-esque pizazz into the show (which would be too technically tricky to do LIVE).

Chris, maybe we can sort out some way to include you from afar. We have the technology after all (2 bean tins and a looong piece of string) ... :)

Perhaps time to re-broadcast "Oh! It's THAT!"? :)
