What else can I say?
Peel was the man who for many people brought home the music that might not have otherwise have had the chance to be heard. Even in his early Radio 1 days, the likes of the Jimi Hendrix Experience did a session for his show, which helped them become established in the UK. Their gratitude of thanks was shown on the original (and rare) puppet sleeve of Band of Gypsys, where one of the puppets was actually Peel himself.
Then there was the late 70s where he championed Joy Division, and subsequently New Order in the 80s. His constant adoration helped the bands become the legends they are, and the fact that Barney from New Order was one of the first to pay tribute said it all.
I can't listen to Teenage Kicks by the Undertones (Peel's all time favourite song ever) without a glint or ten of sadness in my eye...

One day later, and this still doesn't seem real. I played "Teenage Kicks" last night, and that song will never sound the same again. Peel was a lovely guy, and also a champion for new and original music. There's simply no-one out there to fill the void, so not only have we lost a really nice bloke, but also a true and genuine music fan who'd play whatever *he* wanted to, in the interests of the public and the bands, rather than the record labels and marketing managers.
The world is a poorer place without him.

...what a bad world, he's gone, i will really miss him !!!
his fantastic music show was very important in my youth, he give
great bands a chance before they got famous, the peel sessions
always got that special feeling, they got atmosphere.....
tonight i take a closer look into my record collection and pick my
favorites peel sessions feat. joy division, the cure, siouxsie & banshees,
the smiths, new order, the damend, soft cell and x-mal deutschland....
