Don't know if there are any Pantera fans here, but Dimebag Darrell was shot do death at a concert yesterday, and so one of the most influential heavy metal guitarists of the 1990's is gone. :(

Riff In Peace, Darrell. I guess the cowboy from hell finally made it back home.

That sucks so bad. I've been pissed off the whole day about this, the man pretty much redefined the metal guitar after 80's hair metal with Cowboys From Hell. Truly unique style.

R.I.P. Dimebag,

Sumppi, who has a tiny bit of DBD riffing in the mix too (literally).

Please tell me that this is not true!
He was one of my few real heros, one of the reasons to pick up a guitar myself and also go for lead guitar and practicing and practicing all over again and again!! Fuck!
He made me so much goose bumps with his out-of-this-world-soloing and gave me great times in my car cruising thru the city listening to his riffing loud as hell!
I'll put the Great Southern Trendkill in the player this evening and drink a beer or two to honor him and his unrivaled work.
May you rest in hell, Cowboy! :(

For all those that aren't into Dime's playing, listen to
Anthrax' "Cadillac Rock Box", IMO the solo of this song is one of his latest and greatest works...

I just failed getting more info about his death from the web.
Anyone has a link?

(Btw, googling for him I found out his real name was Darrell Abbott! Chris?)

I have been a heavy metal geek more or less since the early 90's... Since then I have heard many (for me) draw-dropping, bonechilling, goosebumping guitar riffs... But nothing so far has been able to compete with the first time I heard "Cemetary Gates" from Pantera's "Cowboys from Hell" album. I think I went through every huge emotion possible at that time... and nothing can make me get my mean face on and scream in rage as when the first few chords from I'm Broken breaks through my speakers...

RIP Darrell Abbott... You will be missed...

I'm bunged up with flu, I've been sleeping it off most of the day as well as dosing myself up, but all my little problems pale into insignificance when you consider that someone has been killed that at least affected the lives of people through his music.

When I used to go to certain indie/rock nights in Manchester, there were certain songs that'd always get people moshing big style, and I remember that "I'm Broken" and "Walk" were always two songs that did the business. Crunching they were, and certainly helped 1990s metal get the recognition it deserved - and for me Pantera were part of that.

So many people have died this year that didn't deserve to...

At least the attacker also died.

My wild guess: It was a religious zealot;
f*cked up his own life pretty bad and blamed it on "devilish music" and tried to be a self-proclaimed martyr of some sort. God, I hate those "righteous" f*ckers. Burn in hell, bastard!
