Hmm
Well, yes indeed its a bit thin still. Im working on that and the length (The original material only had about 58 seconds, so im gonna have to stretch it a bit).
So the drums will get another polishment, i'll try to crank em up a bit
Anyone feel like guessing where the starting speech sample is from ?

:)
Far too kind, far too kind thanks.
I managed to stretch the tune to around 2:50, i think thats a far as i can
go without making it to repetitive. Im not entirely sure if i should leave it
in its current state. There are some minor things that still irritate me in it.

Final update (?)
hi,
This will probably be the final version that i will post on amigaremix.
Please note that i have included links to a .OGG version and a .MP3
Version. The MP3 Version is encoded with variable bitrate (256-320) and
no 19500 hz lowpass filter. The .OGG Version is encoded with quality 10
and a variable bitrate (128-256)
Personally i think the .OGG encoder beats the .MP3 by size and quality of
the encoded file. I usually listen to the music on Winamp with EQ
preset "Full treble and full bass". If i listen to the .MP3 version of this track
with this preset, the bassdrum sounds a little bit to loud. The .OGG version sounds just as i inteded it to be during the EQing in the sequencer.
This leaves me with one question : why isnt .OGG supported on RKO or Amigaremix.com ?
Surely the .OGG format has reached the necessary level of publicity by now, my winamp plays it from scratch.
http://www.ic-roedermark.de/StainlessSt ... ephone.ogg (5.1MB)
http://www.ic-roedermark.de/StainlessSt ... ephone.mp3 (7.1 MB)
Yes, the .OGG file is encoded at a slightly lower bitrate than the .MP3 file.
That might give the .OGG file a advantage over the .MP3 file in size, but the sound quality is higher in .OGG at the lower bitrate than the higher encoded .MP3 file (IMHO).

Re: Final update (?)
Not everyone is using winamp to listen to remixes. Or even a PC. Or a Mac.stainlesssteel wrote:This leaves me with one question : why isnt .OGG supported on RKO or Amigaremix.com ?

Whether we like it or not MP3 is still the #1 format in terms of platform independance. While OggVorbis files have equal or better sound-quality to the trained ear, you need to take something else into account - the audience. The average user can't hear the difference between a properly encoded .mp3 and a properly encoded .ogg file, so he's gonna be well happy with the mp3 version. (Think BetaMax vs VHS.)
Plus, on a broader scale, if we want more and more 'regular' people to discover the beauty of C64 remixes it helps to make the content available in a format that can easily be played on computers/car stereos/iPods/usb pendrives/cellphones/etc. If you tell someone that they must use so-and-so for playback they're just gonna shake their heads, let the geekier part of the populace (ie: us) deal with it, and go do something else.

Succintly put, Jan. I couldn't agree more. It also makes running RKO a much easier job for Jan as well folks (let's not forget that shall we?).Jan Lund Thomsen wrote: If you tell someone that they must use so-and-so for playback they're just gonna shake their heads, let the geekier part of the populace (ie: us) deal with it, and go do something else.
Plus don't forget the amount of portable MP3 players out there. Two of my relations got 256MB USB ones for Christmas, and it's hard explaining to some people how to convert audio files to MP3, never mind actually transferring them to a portable MP3 player.
We have to think outside the box, and this is important.
