wooden floor

I'm pretty surprised how much a wooden floor means to the musical performance of speakers. I've spiked the speakers but recently deciced to try some cylinder-shaped dampers of a soft material to see if that would make a positive difference. It's as if the bass goes lower with the spikes so without the spikes it's like my speakers just got cheaper. It's like the floor just becomes an extension of my speakers. Anyone here got similar experiences?

At last you found out for yourself that room acoustics makes much more difference to a decent Hifi enjoyment than all this dispensable shit the industry wants to sell us.
And you discovered just one thing...you scratched the survice.

Hello Romeo. How did I miss this reply? ;~) Sure I discovered something. That is not to say I did not expect some effect of the floor, just not this much. It's not long ago that I got some decent hifi equipment so I've started to care about these things. For years I've only listened to music though headsets. Now that I have tasted good sound, I'm looking for an even better restaurant. ;~) It's easy to hear that the room affects the sound, it's just that one may tend to focus on the electronics and mechanics that produces the sound rather than the environment, although the environment affects the sound. I'd like to hear this stuff [1] in action. It's a bizarre world [2] where stones and cables (even netcables) are priced well beyond the price of a decent hifi setup. So far I've found two sites that appear objective [3][4]. I'm happy to see that in blind listening tests stuff like $10,000 netcables do not have audible differences from $10 netcables. I did however experience a difference using a power noise filter / power conditioner, although that may be ascribed to "psychoacoustics". But I'm sure by far the most important place to spend money is in loudspeakers. Oh but I'm going off-topic...

By the way, what weird closed thread is that? :~P

That's what it's all about! Do blind tests with your stuff and you'll be really surprised. (And that's valid anywhere: There's a story of a famous brewery owner who not only couldn't identify his own beer by taste but also couldn't tell Koelsch from Alt apart. If you wanna know the truth - do blind tests, anything else is simply worthless.)
