Taking out the trash

Post by sumppi »

I was a bit bored so I started surfing on my mp3 archive and ran into some unfinished remixes. Some of 'em fun, most just awful. But anyway, I thought I'd post some clips here as an educational failure:

Last Ninja: Wilderness
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archive/lntest.mp3
This was around the time when Kill Bill 1 came out with the awesome track on the trailer and I wanted huge drums. Didn't know where to go from that point though.

PRI: Dream's Odyssee part 2
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archive/dreams.mp3
Maybe one day I'll be fast enough to play this through, but at that time I wasn't. Still kinda like this one though, I just couldn't figure out the first part for it. One idea was to do it as Metallica's One.

Johannes Bjerregaard: Sweet
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archive/sweet.mp3
This was around the time the two Sweet remixes came out and there was a lot of discussion about, umm, how suitable it was for some arrangements. This was pretty much done as a five minute joke on that.

Sensible Soccer on Amiga
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archiv ... _test1.mp3
This was supposed to be done in a hurry, but the time ran out and I never got around to finish it. After doing few polished AOR songs I wanted fuzz and stuff like that. Might do it eventually since I already have the live drums recorded for the whole song, the style just might a something else.

Slaygon: Calm
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archive/calm.mp3
This is the first version of Calm that was never released. Recorded on Apple's Garageband in a hotel room in Stockholm and on the ferry between Sweden and Finland.

Slaygon: Echo
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archive/echodemo.mp3
I've done more versions of Echo than is legal, I think. This is the very first one and as such pretty weird one.
http://www.playbynumbers.com/mp3/archive/echodemo2.mp3
A second version of Echo with sample drums and pretty close to the version I (hope I) will release eventually when I get vocals for it (I think so far there has been four takes on the vocals, but none finished yet). The final is a bit harder but I kinda like the lighter Rolling Stones feel on this version.

So, what unfinished remixes do the rest of you have in the closet? :)

I had loads and loads of unfinished stuff as you well know neil lol.
but after a long and drawn out discussion with myself i finally right click deleted the entire folder including their buzz extentions.

i now have no copies of my old stuff.. my new stuff or anything at the moment, all vsti's deleted all samples removed.. buzz re-installed.

hence why ive been so damn quiet, im starting again from scratch and just doing what i feel happy with.. whatever i stop enjoying remixing/writing gets deleted.. ill clearly never be happy with it if i cant even get on with it in conception.

im downloading your tunes now sump looking forward to hearing them, ill let u know what i think when i can.

Drums are crap, boring arrangement. Just never got around to finishing it.

Good post there, Sumpps! Here are a few "work in progress"/"finish some time (probably never)" tunes that's on my hard drive. There are more, but I couldn't fit more than this on my webspace. All of these are unfinished, as you'll hear, but anyway...hope you'll find some kind of pleasure listening to them anyway. Crummy or not. :)

Bubble Bobble Medley
http://www.student.bth.se/~manh01/tunes ... bobble.mp3
I want to finish this, and hopefully I will because I simply think the Hillbilly-thingy stinks to high heaven. There are going to be vocals added, in fact I have the lyrics written for it... Also, if I finish it the drumming will be by Andreas Wallström.

Dulcedo Cogitationis
http://www.student.bth.se/~manh01/tunes ... tionis.mp3
Chris Hülsbeck gem that seems to have gone unnoticed, though I think there's one remix of it on RKO. I've actually done two remixes of this one that are unfinished. This one is sort of...trance I guess. I mainly did it to test the style out. Sounds kind of updated Amiga-ish...or something. The second remix I've done of this sounds kind of like "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" by Dead Or Alive. At least that's what I wanted it to sound like. ;)

Invest Intro
http://www.student.bth.se/~manh01/tunes ... _intro.mp3
J. Tel tune. Don't really know how to continue on it, because the SID doesn't leave much more to add (at least not in the style this is done). I might have to try and incorporate some more SID's into it to finish it off. Perhaps a "C64 Megamix 2"? ;) Any suggestions?

They Stole A Million
http://www.student.bth.se/~manh01/tunes ... illion.mp3
Kind of jazzy track this one. I hope I'll finish it, because I think it sounds rather good so far. Needs some work on the drums and the brass-section though, as well as finishing off the whole arrangement of course. ;)

Right. Hope there's a treat or two for you there.

Very nice choons here, both sumppi and makke good [and slay too]. :)

strangely enough, some of the tunes you both remixed are or have been under treatement in my clinic too ... :)

As many others, i have a shitload of crap in my hd, but i'll eventually finish and release it, in a form (dhs) or another.

After all, even my human race 4 has been in my crap-pile for a long while.

Holy crap, I want to hear a finished version of the Sensible Soccer theme.
It made jiggle about and stuff, absolutely love it.
