Howdy chaps, just wanted some opinions. Two of my remixes have been put up at Kwed and I just wanted to see what you all thought.

The first, Times of Lore - Subtune 2, was inspired by some song in the eighties, by a guy called Chris Isaac. I cant remember what the tune was called, but it was a cheesy retro number, And it had atmosphere. Bassline is a little heavier than it should be, and the lead guitar playing isnt good, but still, tell me what you think.

The second, StarLifter. Just happened to find this little ditty in HVSC and found it to be quite catchy. A definate Manic Street Preachers vibe in there, but the lead isnt as good (again). Threw in a few changes to break up the repetitiveness. (sp?)

Any feedback or critic is well recieved. Thanks.

Havent listend to star lifter, but I thought that the Times of lore cover was excellent! It really suprised me as I thought it was going to be a sid-instrumenty cover, until the guitar came in.

I thought it was superb! I'd love to be able to get some real guitar play like that into some of my works, as it reminds me of my "jamming" days.

BEfore I even read your post here I thought that it reminded me of "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak, so that answers that one! ^_^

Fantastic, I'm looking forward to hearing you other cover.

great work....

Your 'Times of Lore' version, sounds like it came from the 'Plup Fiction'
Soundtrack, a little bit Pink Flyod(Syd Barett Style) and that's great...

...but

Starlifter is my favorit, it's real great... i like such a punkish style...

overall you improved your playing, mixing and you got slowly your
real own style and that's most importend thing, in my opinion....

what's next ???

Luv this Times of Lore cover: yes, sometime it remembers Wicked Games, but, more than it, it remembers me of the mainthemes of both the Silent Hill games from Konami.

The only thing that could be enhanced is the drums, too mechanic for a track of this kind. Otherwise, the cover is fantastic.

Cheers.

ahha, thats where the inspiration came from pal. The TOL remix just oozes early Oldfield. ommadawn comes to mind.

anyway i wrote two reviews for your remixes, so i'll not go into feedback here as i guess i have already done so in the reviews.

Good work!

Agree with Neil (oops, reviews shouldn't refer to other reviews  ) about the Mike Oldfield edge to the Times of Lore, really dig it.

Starlifter, I'm not familiar with the original, but nice guitar!

I'm with Merman on both points

what to add to former posts ?
hmm... 'star lifter' is quite refreshing and 'times of lore' is very relaxing... don't know mike oldfield's beginnings but i like this more than 'tubular bells' or something...

Decided to listen to the original SID of Star Lifter. Top marks Maindrian, good cover & nice use of Chris Isaak style guitar.

Cheers guys, although I'm really not too familiar with Mike Oldfeild. Only know Tubular Bells.

I knew these two would fare slightly better when I compared them to my first Dragons Lair 2 remix. That sounded good to me at the time, but in comparison... Ugh, its horrible isnt it?

DHS: You really made me happy with the silent hill remark. I love those soundtracks. Akira Yamaoka rules! :D

2Klang: Whats next? Well, I want to do something more different. Not another foot down punker, like Starlifter, and not another retro track like TOL. I'm considering another Dragons Lair track, this time an acoustic version of the River Caves theme. Maybe Lo-Fi. But if anybody could suggest something better, feel free to speak up.

Anyway, cheers guys.

If you're going to do Dragon's Lair, couldn't you do the title theme, in whatever style you feel works? :) :)

Sorry, I've no plan to do the title tune. Perhaps you should ask Glyn R Brown, because he's the only person I think could do that tune justice.

And thinking about it, could you imagine how weird a guitar version of that track would be anyway?

> because he's the only person I think could do that tune justice.

I think it would be fairer to say that only a full orchestral treatment
a la Glyn could do the tune justice: there are quite a few arrangers
currently developing their orchestral stuff who could also make a decent
job of it, such as Markus Schneider (whose latest remix in the
RKO queue is stunning), the BIT 3/4 team, Peter Connelly,
Markus Holler, some of the other Remix64 Vol 2 team, and
even newer talent such as Larsec. Of course, whoever did it, it would
be bloody hard work and require a lot of imagination, which of course
are the keystones of Glyn's work. All of the Dragon's Lair II tunes will
be on BIT 6, with a couple probably on BIT 4: that's been the plan for
the last year and a half, and now Markus S. has got his new sample set,
we're just getting restarted on the project.
