Just had an e-mail from my IP provider "Blueyonder" and bloody awesome news!
I currently have a 2mb connection, sometime early next year they are increasing it to a whopping 10mb and get this...
AT NO EXTRA COST!
Infact even those on a 512k connection will be upgraded to 2mb for free!
RESULT!

Yup! That's a great thing!
Now if the internet's content quality would increase with the bandwith...

BT arrived stealthily one night and forced an upgrade to 2meg onto us. We didn't want it but they threatened us.
Bit of a surprise one morning to find that the connection had doubled from 1.1 to 2.2. I'm hoping it happens again

Download ratio? If you mean that it's metered, then AFAIK it isn't.

Well Telewest reckons so...

Well, I can only speak for the service here, but it's totally un-metered. I download quite a few large files and have no problems. Sounds like a bit of Telewest spin ...

I had NO idea! I'm used to Telewest (it's at my parents) and have only been using BT for a year since I moved in with my gf. To be honest, 30gb is a lot to download. That's probably why I've never come across it.

German Telekom forced an upgrade on our lines from 786k to 1000k some while ago... and charged 4 Euros more per month for it. It was either take it or quit. Ahh the bliss of having a (partial) monopoly.

Your bang on there Markus.. It wasn't til BT lost their monopoly that we saw drastic price decreases and better stuff..
It's been open for a long time now and due to external companies things have improved drastically.

@Markus: Telekom takes flak from Versatel here... prices should drop *a tad bit* soonish though it may be executed by either T-Com or T-Online... who knows.

Well there are a few alternatives, but mainly in urban agglomerations... if you live on the countryside you're still stuck with t-Com. But as Vosla hints we're eventually getting there.
