What I've been doing for the last two years.... part I
Posted: 01/02/2006 - 23:48
For the past two years I've been working on systems to do with detecting the capabilities of phones and other devices in real-time so you can serve them information properly, tailored to their capabilities.
The first site my new company (set up in Norway!) is launching is:
http://www.uaprofile.com
Basically: phones have capabilities (audio/video/etc).
This site lets you search and do statistics on nearly 2000 phones, with an automated system adding more every hour.
People have never been able to do that before, but this site is just a side effect of a bigger system I've created.
The best resource comparable to this that people have had so far is this:
http://www.w3development.de/rdf/uaprof_repository/
So you can see that mine is a quantum leap.
The site is pretty much live, though the occasional user has had a problem with signing up with certain email addresses.
Of course, most of it will mean diddly squat to most people... which is quite alright If you don't need to know what phones can do, then you don't need this site.
The bigger site (and bigger system) will launch soon-ish. A Lot more soon-ish than my C64 stuff anyway
You have to register (free) if you want to actually do anything apart from read the FAQ. You might have to trust me when I tell you that this site is sex on legs to a large subset of web developers
