Commodore Remix

A friend of mine left the country and didnt have plans on coming back and didnt want to carry too much with him so he gave me he's Roland Controller Keyboard. Well long story short he's back and wants the keyboard back.

So I need to buy one.

So what do you guys recommend? Is there any specific features I should look for? Any brands I should stay away from?

GET A NEW FRIEND - bloody 'Indian giver'!

I use a Novation X-Station 25, but that's a combined controller, fx processor and soundcard all in one (which is ideal for me due to my space restrictions).

Depends what you want to do with it, too. Some people want weighted keys and all that jazz whereas some (like me) prefer the feel of weightless, dead plastic!

For just basic note input, I've used a couple of the M-Audio Evolution ones over the years, and they're still alive after a few good years of bashing

Well after visiting the above suggested websites and some others like Novation. I'm sure of a couple of things.

1. It will be an M-Audio Keyboard Controller.
2. 49 Keys, no less, no more (dont have space for anything longer)

Now looking at all the 49 Key controllers, I really like the Axiom one, however in the end I may not get an Axiom.

Although a Semi-Weighted would be nice, I dont know if it be practical for the type of music I'm working, and might become annoying after a while.

i've a m-audio radium 49 as second controller, it's a real nice keyboard...
the knobs & sliders works fine and it's well supportet by many host-sequencers....

Cool, what are you using as a first controller? For now I will mainly be using Fruity Loops, which is not the best supported sequencer out there. I know most of these keyboards support Reason and Live.

They put out some good stuff. I also have a radium-49 (but as my only controller ) and love it. It's a good fit between power/features and price.

my good old DX7 IID, i still love this machine...
the plugins in FL should've a midi learn function as far as i know..

Now I would love to buy the Radium 49 series, however it all comes down to the space available, and money.

I went to a local Music Store and I can get the Keystation 49e for $120 which would be much cheaper than order the keyboard from the U.S. and paying all the dutie etc..

As for space. I would rather have a 49 Key keyboard than a 25Key Keyboard loaded with more options.

The way I record and in the creative process. I need to be able to play the lower Notes and Higher notes at the same time.

I should have bought the keyboard today when I was in the store, but my memory did was not serving me well and I was not sure if the Keystation 49e was one of my choices.

I think the stores is closed tomorrow (Sunday), so I will have to wait till Monday.

Yeah - I'm getting one for Xmas. I'm hoping to get something for around £100 (ish). I would prefer 49 touch sensitive keys and some sliders and pots.

Surely you can turn this feature off if it's not suitable to the type of music you want to play. I know I'd use this feature but owuld also like the option to remove it.

Anyway - I'll be using FL Studio, so if anyone knows of any problem areas (i.e. compatiblilty) then it'd be nice to know. How easy are they to hook up (I presume USB is pretty easy), but are they a doddle to configure ???

I will be using Fruity Loops as well however all M-Audio products come with a Lite version of Abelton Live.

Which I've been meaning to ask everyone here, if anyone has ever tried using Abelton Live and what do they think of it?

I use this one, too. Reliable, ok key feeling and no installment hassle cos it doesn't even need drivers. Real plug-and-play. Good choice if you don't need extra controller knobs and stuff.

I did it!!!

I snuck out at lunch time drove to the music store and purchased the Keyboard, from the time I walked into the store and walked out it took 3 Minutes. must be the quickest sale they have ever made on a Midi Controller Keyboard.

Now I have to complete a bunch of stuff on the "Honey Do List" before I can connect this baby and start making tunes.
