C64 emulators - recommend one, please

I've an urge to play Paradroid again. I last played it... oooh... Jeez, when I last set eyes on a Commodore 64. I need an idiot's guide to C64 emulators (note the word 'idiot' here!)

While we're about it, is Alleykat available on emulator anywhere?

Cheers.

I use VICE the most, but I find CCS64 gives a better emulation (it's more stable too). What's really useful is being able to switch between PAL and NTSC for thorough testing.

Yes, CCS64 is the best in my opinion :)

Allthough i get some crackeling sound in between on the ccs64 emu, don't know why ;/ Anyone else have the same prob?

Hmm, have a look at the audio options and choose the fastest playback rate. That might help.

Hmmm where do i find the playback rate?

I can only change what soundcard output i want to use and other stuff.

Nothing helps ;/

I thought CCS64 was the best, but I hate its not true Windows compliance, whereas C64 emulation never looked so good running in a window in Vice ;)

Alos, I'm sure Vice *does* have on the fly NTSC switching, and a nice PAL filter also (read:pixel blurring)

D'oh! I got the controls for VICE mixed up with CCS! Have a look at the cfg file, see if there are any settings there that you can change (but save a backup just in case!)
