I'm listening to an (I believe) pretty old Transformers soundtrack. I may be mistaken but it appears to have pretty good dynamics. That's quite typical of pre 90's masterings.
I just saw a danish DAC capable of 32 bit 384 kHz output and recording. What does it all matter if it's all trashed like that. But machines like that are likely used for classical music.
