I would consider buying one if the price is right. :)

Well depending on the built in MIDI specs (which are unconfirmed as yet) it could essentially turn your C64 into and instant MIDIbox SID or SidStation, but of course with 6 channels if the SID2SID upgrade or one of these things (http://www.c64net.com/fotios/fbss.php" target="_blank" target="_blank) is installed...

This is all completely speculative ATM though...

But it seems I speculated RIGHT! Full MIDI implementation for your C64:

"Mssiah receives full midi data like notes, velocity, control changes, pitch bends etc. on up to six tracks simultaneously. Several modes of operation are provided."

It's not bad. It may be monophonic, but you can merge sounds together, fire samples, play your syndrums and use paddles to adjust your on-screen 'pots'.

Two things I don't like about it is that you can only record the length of about four beats at a time in the sequencer and it doesn't output your stuff to MIDI, even as a disk file. There are other niggles too but you can get by with them.

It's a flawed all-in-one solution, for which I hope revised versions are sorted, but as a little MIDI instrument it does the job very well and sits nice with other C64s running the likes of M64 or My Midi.

Ebay man, EEEE-BAAYY!

Though if you don't fancy spending peanuts on the most versatile 8-bit home micro as ever there was, you can always fire up the emulator and run the cracked-to-disk version of its predecessor, the Prophet 64.

I've handily linked to it on a sub-page of mine, here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/michael.braisher/Xtras.htm.

DISCLAIMER: It's somebody' else's copy so don't blame me!

Also worth noting that the proper version of the sequencer software doesn't crash when you try to edit an instrument! If you want C64 sounds without a real C64, you're much better off using Quadrasid and/or Dreamstation DXi2 (free).

And there are of course hardware options which house a real SID chip inside, but I honestly can't recommend them...

Crash does it? I think that's why I put up the discontinued demo version as well. Look into them both and you can have a workaround solution, though response times when playing keyboard via the emulator are dicey.

But then, what d'ya want for nothing, honey on it?!

There are buckets of other programs to download and play with, both PC and 64-based to suit everyone's approach.

I've used the Quadra-SID myself and it's been handy. Though I've noticed that SID VSTi seems to focus promarily on effect-style noises whilst the 'proper' C64 synth packages give you more generic sounds. Each compliments the other I've found.
