Blade Runner Four-Disc Collector's Edition

Post by Analog-X64 »

I dont know about U.K. Release.

I knew this DVD would come out eventually... didnt see any ads on TV about it... but today at Wal-Mart

I found the DVD in the BOx Set section... its considered a BOX Set because it comes with 4 Discs.. and 4 Versions of the Movie.. a Final Cut dated 2007 and 3 Other Version...1982 US Theatrical Cut. 1982 International Theatrical Cut and 1992 Director's' Cut.

How's the picture quality?
I got the Director's Cut (which was the only "real" version til now) but the picture sucks (it's only letterbox AFAIR).
Does the Final Cut still have the unicorn dream in it?

Final Cut is the Directors Cut as Ridley Scott would have made it if the studios hadn't rushed things back in the 90s. It has the unicorn dream (a new version even, I think), fixed special effects, better cut, restored violent scenes.

The DVD picture and sound quality is better than any version of the film I've seen before, better than when I saw it in the cinema in the 90s, better than the Laser Disc version, and of course miles better than the first DVD version, which was by far the worst of all.

So grab a copy of the final cut (18 EUR at amazon), don't bother with the collectors stuff and the other versions: Final Cut is final cut all right. (IMHO of course)

Blade Runner is not really that good...

...according to my wife!

My God! That's almost reason for divorcing her. My ex thought it was "rather slow". Of course she was born in 1982.

I love Star Wars as much as the next guy and I've seen 'em all a trillion times but Blade Runner I've seen a fantazillion times, and at least once every year.

Got the final cut version on DVD but I actually rather like the cinema version too, with the voiceover.

basically it comes down to this.

Blade Runner fans are split in half.

50% Like the Directors Cut and the other half like Harrison Ford Narrating.

I like Harrison ford Narrating.

I'm from the directors cut faction. The movies depth was lost on me until I saw the directors cut.

The narration is of course a matter of taste, but the attached happy ending of the 1982 version is just wrong.

The soundtrack is by far the most played CD in my stock. Perfect to listen to if you're in a gloomy mood. :)
(that doesn't mean I'm gloomy most of the time, btw.)

Exactly my opinion.
(Without spoilering too much since anyone here has watched the movie several times anyway:)
The whole movie is about the connection between Deckard's dream and the last scene with the tiny
paper unicorn in the stairway. I just don't get why they cut that out in the first version of the movie.

I have the 5 disc US blu-ray version and the directors cut picture is superb for an old film! Audio is also knockout stuff. Really put alot of time and effort into this release, certainly with the HD version, and boy does it show!

Darnit, the Blu-ray 5 disc version doesn't seem to be available as region 2... ...which is a problem since my PS3 is just that... *sigh* Well, the Final Cut will have to do for now, then...

Ridley Scott was just born down the road from me (really about 200 yards). South Shields' one and only claim to fame ;)

And you know what.............I have never seen Blade Runner in any shape or form..... :eekout:

John this is the version i have, its actually region A and B and works on PAL PS3. This is the same seller i always use for imports, very good prices and always has the latest and greatest in stock! It is worth getting hold of even if you have the DVD version.
