Making Orchestra hits
Anybody made a home made orchestra hit, you know the kind found in 80's and 90's romplers?
Laserdance uses them a lot. Or any suggestions of samples to be found?
But making your own orchestra hit would be ideal, making them sound less "orchestra" and more of a "power hit". Like the one in James Brown is Dead with L.A. Style.
Are there any preferrable notes or sounds that should be used? Other "rules" of how to make orchestra hits.
Googling didn't do much good since searching for "hit" will result in CD-compilations of orchestra music.

Re: Making Orchestra hits
Have you tried googling for orchestral stab? Stab is another term for hit.

I know I've seen bunch of those samples scattered across my sample collection.
I could take a look, if you like.

Re: Making Orchestra hits
In BIT 3's "Flash Gordon", I made orchestral stabs out of their component instruments, though since i already had the orchestration going, it wasn't too much out of my way...
Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?

Re: Making Orchestra hits
Hey, wonderful answers!
I think I'll have a go tonight.
Wikipedia is a good place to search indeed.
I have some (pretty lame) orchestral hits in some cheap orchestral library but they sound too "orchestral" and sluggish. I also like to have the freedom to choose my own key, major/minor, choice of sounds etc.
Thanks guys!
@Stormy: Could you see if you have some kind of "laserdance"-ish orch hits, for example from a synth from the 80's. Or any type of hits actually, rap-hits can maybe be useful some day.

You've just got PMed, mister!
As for choosing a key / chord - guy(s) at Celemony came up with a revolutionary new technology called
"Direct Note Access" that allows editing individual notes inside polyphonic audio material, as if you were
working with midi instead of rendered / recorded audio.

Said to be released in new version of Melodyne plugin this Autumn. With Spectrasonics' Omnisphere to
be released in September (I think), should be one exciting Autumn.

Re: Making Orchestra hits
That Melodyne-stuff sounds like witchcraft! It would be good to have when playing stuff live or changing chords on guitars etc. May be worth another look if using some recorded material.

Hi Instant Remedy
Did you find what you were looking for? There's some Korg rompler hits in this tutorial:

I have some more nice LD-type orch hits. PM me if you need them.

Re: Making Orchestra hits
Hey, I checked yhat page out some time ago, cool site.
I know your space-synth remixes Cirdan, your Pucca City is excellent!
I've got a s**t-load of hits from Stormy (thanks man), although no LD/space-synth-ish. Good for inspiration.
The korg-hits on spacesynth.net is the kind of hit/stab I was looking for. I'm about to try making my own hit with a couple of synthy sounds and see what comes up.
Thanks for the tip!

Re: Making Orchestra hits
Thanks I have collected quite a vast library of cheesy 80s synth and drum sounds. Then it turns into something like this usually.
Hoping to hear some space material from you, IR

Re: Making Orchestra hits
I've already made a kind of Laserdance-ish version of Battle Squadron, without the orchestra hits though. Are you "Lauri" on Spacesynth.net too?
Re: Making Orchestra hits
Yep, that's me. I am one of the founders of the site. Been totally stuck into that style after finding Laserdance.sid while I was browsing HVSC Hoping to hear your Battle Squadron rmx soon.Instant Remedy wrote:I've already made a kind of Laserdance-ish version of Battle Squadron, without the orchestra hits though.
