Here we are with When Things go bad the Sequel.

I got a call on Friday Night, from all people HR at work, and she told me not to return for work on Monday, I've been laid off with a tentative date to return on January 19th which is not a guaranteed date.

December not shaping up to be a good month at all, I'm not feeling too festive at the moment.

Positive side Pogo (My dachshund) is recovering well and getting stronger by day, he can walk with a slight wobble with the help of a sling around he's waist.

Helping Trace rip a MOD got me distracted a bit which is a good thing.

That is all. (I hope)

December is not a good month for many of ppl, i have some friends at work who don't have work to go to either in january and more will get laid off in january, I hope I'm not one of them... :/

Both me and my wife went out of job December 1:st, so not a good month for us either. On the bright side, there seem to be work for both of us early next year.
Hope things will get better for you in 2009 X-64. Also, one tend to be more greatful for smaller (good) things during bad times.

I'll have a negotiation in February about my working hours. If they reduce my hours, I'll get a hefty paycheck cut. :-/

Seems like it is a bad trend catching on. May I ask (all of) you what your jobs were?

I am a cnc lathe operator doing stuff for tractors and trucks and stuff and the metall, car industry is hitting hard :/
We will go from 2 shifts to dayshift , and that means less casch :/
For like 2 weeks ago I whent from 3 shifts to 2 shifts :/
Hope the will turn around soon...

I've been in Automotive 20 years now, Currently I program industrial robots for the automotive industry, to carry out tasks like Material Handling, Spot Welding, Mig Welding etc..

I know a fair bit about Electrical wiring of Panels, Electronics, and for a while was even doing I.T. Work taking care of Servers and Desktops in a Corporate environment.

The automotive industry goes in Cycles, 3-5 Years of being Super Busy, and than 1-2 years of slow period, but over the years since the 90's actually I've noticed a steady decline in the recovery period.

I've been trying to get out of the automotive industry but no luck.

Sorry to hear other people abroad are also having same type of problems.

The car industry is in pretty bad shape, and there are a lot of jobs in the UK that depend on it too... There were images on the TV news the other day of two old airfields filled with cars that the manufacturers cannot sell.

The U.S. Government had a press conference today and they are going to bail out the industry but with stipulations.

I don't think so. They may achieve a short-term solution which will dampen the hard fall but the overall direction is downhill. We are going through a serious depression - an unavoidable side effect of the war business. And especially in the US this tactic will have unforseen effects on the market as the government never had such influence on the industry before. In contrast, European countries are used to it.
