features a C64C motherboard, a Gamecube power supply, and special 1541-III DTV device that emulates a floppy drive using a FAT-32 formatted SD card
Wow, and at first glance I thought it was just a nice custom laptop case and Windows-based emulation...!

Is there bits of the top & bottom border missing or is it just me?

I assume it's an NTSC c64.

It's impressive indeed... But guys, isn't the same when I run C64 emulator with fullscreen mode on my notebook???
So why should I built a thing like this?

As awesome as Emulation is (and I'm a big proponent of it), it's not perfect. I still can't get some games to play on VICE, and a few others have odd copy protection schemes as well that were not a problem when I had the original hardware, software, and other stuff that came in the game boxes.
If you can get an emulator to run all of the games that you want to play, put some C64 key stickers on your keyboard, then hook it up to HardSID for authentic SID sound, then you've got something awfully close to the original, but with the added benefit of Warp Mode, snapshots, etc.
But in reality, I'm sure Ben just did it because he wanted to, and because he could.
Might as well ask why the effort was made to have Guitar Hero run on a C64 --- it's a project, and it's just...cool.

My friend... of course that was a rhetorical question....
I love this stuff!!!
But you know Ben's work is still an emulation for me, cos it hasn't got the smell of the original plastic cover...

Heck, I'd just be happy to find a new-in-box Commodore 64c.

Someone should have a go.
