WIP Storm Warrior + Nosferatu: help for new remixer :)
Posted: 25/06/2009 - 5:18
hi people!
I'm very new to making c64 remixes and was hoping to get some advice for improving I've made two so far (below). If anyone has a moment to comment I would really really appreciate opinions and advice, perhaps particularly on the following points:
* quality of the sounds - does it sound retro or just amateurish?
* composition - is it interesting to listen to? (I'm currently working on issues with coherence - trying to avoid it sounding so 'random')
* I really like the SID aesthetic, and have noticed that quite a number of (amazing!) kwed chart pieces instead use orchestral instruments, rock band music styles, more modern synth sounds etc. - is there a place for retro sounding music at kwed or should I look at working with e.g. orchestral instruments?
1. Storm Warrior Song 8:

Here I tried to work a chiptune aesthetic into an experimental orchestral style composition - I also wanted to convey a sense of journey and drama.
2. Nosferatu the Vampyre
http://js82Nal.fileave.com/nosferatu_v1 ... uality.mp3
A retro tribute - I tried to capture the eerie, atmospheric qualities of the brief original in a more fun, cartoony way.
(for easy reference, here's the original of Nosferatu:

I put my Storm Warrior cover into the chart queue but unfortunately it was rejected for being too random and incoherent - so for my next covers I'm really going to focus on consistency of style. Thanks!! I'm loving this site like crazy
