Native Instruments Pro53 question.

This question has been bugging me for over 5 years so can anyone comeup with an idea why?
I bought Pro 53 some time ago and was running it stand alone on my old Windows 95 P200 computer using a soundblaster card. Granted the polyphony was only 4 notes but I believe the original Pro 5 had that too. Since then I upgraded to Windows ME 1GHZ and installed the previous soundblaster card into it but running it standalone now there is a major latency lag in the sound reproduction that being I can't go less than 50ms. I just don't get it as its a shame as I love this softsynth.
Is because its too fast in some area and its conflicting with the soundcard?
I just find it odd that I got 10ms on my old Win95 but with windows ME and Vista I have to set it over 50ms which isn't usable really.
I've installed it on my Windows Vista 2.33 GHZ and I get the same unworkable results. I guess its kinda one of the reason why I like hardware so much you don't get latency problems!
