Can you REALLY overclock the 64 with a poke?

Apparently this whacks the processing speed up:
POKE 56325, (0-255), with POKE 56325,51 being 'normal'.
I spotted this in Your 64, July 1985 issue.
I tapped this in on the BASIC screen and also within a progam via the Action Replay. I saw no speed increase or decrease.
Is this a misprint? Or would it work at all?

I can't remember the exact value off the top of my head, but you can blank the screen (i.e. turn it off) and that WILL speed up the processor - since it is no longer interrupted by the VIC-II chip trying to draw the screen display.

POKE 53265,PEEK(53265) AND 23 (turn off screen display)
POKE 53265,PEEK(53265) OR 16 (turn on screen display)
That's according to this:

This trick is used by many a tape accelerator software and some floppy speeders.
Also nifty when the breadbin was calculating some heavy numbers.
Hmm, now I want to finish my workspace at home FAST, so I can start molesting my commodore again. Muhahah!

It was used by the standard tape loading routine before fastloaders, too.

ah, that 3/4 hour wait for China Miner to load... at least no chance of screen burn
