I nearly threw this away. This box set contains some great early sound effects for the Commodore 64, from the days when synth inspirations came more from the Moog.


Run the program, sample the bits and pieces and let your imagination do the rest.

(I really like 'K'. It sounds very mellow and, just like 'J', you don't even need to pitch-bend it for the octave!)

TIP: For a lack of system buzz, run Win-Vice which can sample at a fantastic 96khz. Purists may complain but there are some truly fantastically clean and hi-res results doing that.

And as the code's in BASIC, and full of REMs to tell you what happens, it's convenient to change the sounds from code too.

And if anyone knows what the stencil is for, it would be nice to know!

I've not bothered to copy the last two pages containing most of the program. I should think nobody wants to waste their lives typing in a listing which they can always view from the tape anyway.

Stencil is for drawing flowcharts.

Oh yes! Quite forgot you had to pull on your white coat and set up a huge easel with the light on the top to bash out some home-based fun and frolics back in the day.

After all, a plastic computer was supposed to take you halfway to being Einstein in those days!

Thanks. I think it's worthwhile uploading all these bits, especially as Instant Music never worked before I uploaded mine. I'm often finding broken software online as well as forgotten things nobody else seems to have.

The Paris Race theme is rendered so crudely that sound snatches can be had for more competent fun. Cracktros may be nice.

...And have fun wiggling the joystick for the motor sound too. (This is why it's good to keep even the crap games now. Data drives are roomy enough to house countless thousands of disk images anyway.)
