Xeon or iCore or Sandybridge.

Its finally time to bring my computing to the 21st century. My current PC is a single core purchased in 2001, which has been my primary music/graphics production machine.
I can get an HP Z400 WORKSTATION XEON W3580 3.33GHZ 6GB/160GB DVD+/-RW GIGABIT WINDOWS 7 that normally goes for $4436 for about $1500

What do you think? Would this type of machine be better than building some kind of Core i7 QuadCore system?
