Story

We had a gig comig up with my band Paradroid. The backing tracks for the rest of the songs were programmed by Romeo Knight and Danko. Since they were busy, I decided to produce this cover from scratch.

Reyn Ouwehand's cover inspired me 15 years ago but I tried avoiding doing over again the stuff he had done. I aimed for a new approach to the song and to find new harmonies as well. We intended to keep the structure original instead of looping the first part over and over. The stylistic impression came mostly from Ozric Tentacles' psycheledic stuff and Breakbeat Era.

I combined breakbeats paired with vocals, theremin, Moog bass, saxophone and Romeo Knight's guitar. All the breaks were painstakingly hand drawn, trying to avoid repetition. Vocals and saxophone improvised on top.

Loved this track from the very first time I heard it :).. The theremin playing is just next level. Great work!
OMG! This is amazing! Dark, chaotic and wow, those drums, the percussion is just brilliant.
What an amazing take on one of the SIDs that really defined what music is all about!
This song, 2001 on the screen, and LSD. The Holy Trinity.

The lead is like a voice from a singing SID! The drums really drive the song into a futuristic new wave style. Spooky and exceptional good. This is how you take on a deadly classic tune and put your own signature and touch to it!

The vocals, the Theremin… Wow.

I think it's unfortunate that the Theremin got typecast as a 'spooky' instrument only for horror movie soundtracks, because in the right hands it can be very expressive and emotional. Like here.

And then we also got a nice sax improv out of this remix, too. Pretty cool!

Welcome to the remix community, Bass Cadet! 🙂
