Story

When watching Top Gun – Maverick in cinema I realized again how definitive 80s Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins is. Great track. When driving home after this great movie, I still whistled the tune and out of a sudden, Rob Hubbard’s ACE II came into my mind. I immediately thought that there are similarities, i. e. the bass, the hook, the solo. So 1 week later, ACE II (Danger Zone Edit) feat. Maverick was rendered out of my DAW. I hope you like it.

Weeks later I read STIL and realized that it was by purpose that ACE II sounded like Danger Zone 😉

Shouts
Your remixes have made me love the sound of the electro guitar, man. Great remix.
Wow! Amazing Volker!!! Love it!
This is great – more of this kind of thing, please!
Hah SO cool 😎👍 the guitar solo is epic!
Yeah pretty good, I actually didn't realize what track it was until I played the SID haha. Quite cool, agree with Lala cos that boy knows his shit re the lyrics, I kinda miss the SIDs trill.. But overall pretty cool.
Holy smokes, this is great stuff
This is definitive a RED SMILEY!!! Especially your guitar SOLO!
Hang on, while we’re all caught up with BIT, you sneak out one of your best remixes? Awesome! Nice subtle harmonies and production on the vocals. Lyrics don’t quite work for me towards the end but who cares because that guitar solo is pretty special.
Okay, this remix put a big fat smile on my face. A BIG smile! Great job!
Ace! Amazing production, so good.
Thats a bit different. Feels so 80's so you've got me! Liik this ALOT!
Great idea, well executed and captures that "sound" of the era. Vocal harmonies are great too. Well done doc!
Wow! The guitar is amazing!
Spot on with everything, except the vocals that lack determination! Other than that, perfect 80s!
Inspiring and awesome guitar solo!
This is just fantastic - what a homage!
Wow! Awesome!
The singing isn't anything near Kenny Loggins. Aside from that, great idea!

Oh, wow, a near-perfect pastiche of Danger Zone from Top Gun laid over the melody and chord structure of Ace 2! Complete with syrupy lyrics! And that guitar solo!… If I may, the only gripe I have here is that the flow of the lyrics doesn't always match the rhythm of the tune (highway into to danger, highway into hell, it's your job and you're the man, this is why we're here baby and let's gooo, let's fly for glory, etc.) - it feels clunky and unnatural in those spots. (For example, I don't think a native English speaker would ever sing glory with a short o and a long y.)

Totally not my style but I love it! IMHO the best DRF remix ever, at least production-wise. I can see almost no weaknesses, could have been taken right from the Best-of-the-80s radio station. Great embedding of the vocals (you get used to the lyrics after a few listens) and an insanely slick guitar solo that's not only there to show-off but perfectly fits and enhances the track's energy (although being a quite free interpretation of the original sequence).

I’ve always felt quite a few C64 SIDs could be full pop songs (or dance numbers), rather than instrumental rearrangements. The trick is in finding the tracks with the most suitable riffs and reworking them in a manner that makes sense. This is an excellent reimagining of a Hubbard track that hits all the right notes. Top stuff.

Totally awesome track no doubt about it. But one thing bugs me when listening to the first few notes of the track: The sound of that bass is waaaay too soft. The original sound (they used Yamaha DX7 factory rom bank #3 - preset 12 E-Bass 1 on the original track) really kicked ass and should've been used here to give the track the necassary bite. But this is just nitpicking and a matter of taste because the whole track is just plain awesome - starting form your first idea to the final product. Had great fun listening to it and excatly that's what matters. 😊
