Peter Clarke, ziona & Slaygon - Tales of Boon (The Collaboration Mix)
A very creative collaboration between the three of us. It was about 6 weeks work in total, from conception to completion. We chose this particular SID & subtune quite quickly, (that's usually NOT the case with co-op's) and we felt there was enough room within the SID for all three of us to flex our individual, creative muscles and incorporate our three, very different styles. The biggest worry was that we'd end up with three mini-remixes because our styles are so different. Lot's of internet activity over the next 6 weeks tried to ensure that we were all making the same remix. A mammoth amount of chit-chat between Sweden & the UK kept us heading in the same direction & singing from the same page. Ideas for each others parts & arrangements were plentiful and contrary to what you might expect, they flowed in all 3 directions.
Once we had finished our own parts, we had 52 individual audio-stems to mix and master. Peter took on the task of putting his 'Epic Orchestra' together with Princess Boom's synths and huge drums & Slaygon's unique, percussion-based outro. We all feel it came out as the single-remix we wanted, (it could have missed by a mile).
So, here you are! A unique remix which takes Thomas Detert's original SID to a new place, for sure; and tells a story which has changing moods & atmosphere from start to finish. We were delighted to achieve 3rd place in the SLAY / AROK remix competition. It will be good to read comments & feedback from the community here on RKO / Remix64 and maybe discover a bit more about why people voted for us in the competition, (or didn't).
As always.. All feedback is welcome!
..and just for fun.. Can you pick each of us out of the remix…?

The individual pieces sewn together really work to its advantage, bringing us on an epic cinematic experience. I suspect the organ-heavy intro is Peter's making, transitioning to ziona's part at around 1:30, then going back and forth a little between Peter and ziona, with the tune so obviously concluding with Slaygon's darker tones. I hope I got that right. 😉
Even though the remix quickly fades out, I suspect that's mostly due to the 2020 Árok remix compo's 4:30 time limit, because it feels like this could've been a lot longer.
Either way, a superb auditory experience, I really enjoy this, guys & gals!
