Fist II [Song 2] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Mattias Brian

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

Many have tried to extend this tune but a very few managed to do it like this! You've added so many extra bits that fits in the whole tune. Now I will only hear this version when I play Fist II LOVE it!

Last Ninja 2 [Street Loader] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Jogeir Liljedahl

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

I am out of words how sweet this sounds. Again deadly close to the original but then you take it to another level with your JL signature! I love how you blended in Matt Gray's drums, small detail but made it shine that extra. Just outstanding!

Bitter Sweet (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Tomsk

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

Great take on one of the most emotional SIDs ever written. You've taken it to a different place. It feels like you gave all the players freedom to improvise parts from the original SID. Nevertheless it keeps close to the original! Perhaps a bit too much at some times, but hey that's what remixing is all about.

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

The original SID is a masterpiece itself. But this is beyond SID imagination. This could be Vangelis meeting a drummer! The sounds are a journey themself! Excellent is a weak word for how dazzling catch and release this remix is! One of the best!

Love the soundscapes and arrangement. All is there and the tight sound makes it awesome. And to have Romeo creaming the guitar like a god is just what we want! TB-SIDoSID with talkbox! This is it!

Tetris [Mariko's Tale] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Barry Leitch

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

To make a tune this length really takes what it takes. You've managed to add so many parts coming, staying and recalling the magic Wally Beben did on SID. So nice and capturing. Gives me goosebump!

Artillery (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Jogeir Liljedahl

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

Not only did you stay close to the original you managed to take it to the next level. Again the arrangement is top notch. The drums, the background, the base is there and then the amazing lead sweeps in. This is one of the best remixes I ever heard! RESPECT.

A true star that shines bright in the sky! This remix has so much details in it but stays close to the original. The arrangement is exceptional great! And the extra bits added, do really reflect your JL-signature that's been a dream since the Amiga years. Amazing selection of instruments.

Warhawk [feat. Bass Cadet] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Romeo Knight

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

Warhawk is one of the best songs ever made. To take on such a tune is not an easy task. The theremin sings perfectly as the magnificent guitar licks smoothly in the background. Totally amazing with the tinypop drums and all the nuts and bolts. Keep it going!

Green Beret (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Bass Cadet

Review by Dees Productions, 29/11/2024

The lead is like a voice from a singing SID! The drums really drive the song into a futuristic new wave style. Spooky and exceptional good. This is how you take on a deadly classic tune and put your own signature and touch to it!

Review by Tomsk, 29/11/2024

My favorite Jogeir track from the album. Basically - he never puts a foot wrong here, and still manages to suprise us with tempo and swing changes. The subtle soundscape is worthy of many a listen on headphones. I could live off the warmth this remix emits. Flawless!

Illumination (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Glyn R Brown

Review by Tomsk, 29/11/2024

Cracking remix. Some beautiful sounds and all carefully crafted. The remix ebbs and flows, but that dreamy intro sold it to me. It's wonderful. Some tell-tale 'Glyn' at the 4 minute mark, but in many ways a departure from his trademark style. I for one - approve!

Tetris [Mariko's Tale] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Barry Leitch

Review by Tomsk, 29/11/2024

Downright awesome. Only a crazy person would attempt this…so there you go. All of the original great theme is here, including the re-created samples, plus loads more to admire. The thumping drums and oriental sounds are perfectly suited - and it must be noted ALL of the additonal work fits like it was always there. There's nothing that takes you out of the TETRIS ZONE. If you're a fan of this tune you're going to love this. If you've not heard it before, set aside 30 minutes - sit back, and soak it in.Fantastic work!

Review by Danko, 29/11/2024

I used to work at Funcom in Oslo during the mid 90s, Jogeir and Geir were also working there so we were colleagues. What are the odds that I ended up not only working with these legends but also became good friends to the best C64 musician in Norway AND the best Amiga musician in Norway. It was an honour to get to master engineer this remix, the best of the best from Norway combined how can you best that. You can't. Stolen!

Compleeto [feat. Romeo Knight] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by LMan

Review by Danko, 29/11/2024

This SID is one of my personal favourites and also comes with a backstory where I was personally inserted into part of the narrative at the time back in the days, but I won't get into that here. I heard the work in progress of this remix by LMan and it was smashingly clever, also the guitar playing by Romeo Knight was the best I have heard from him on a C64 remix. As I was initially mastering this track, I found myself forgetting what I was doing and just listening to that guitar solo… Flabberghasted. For reasons undisclosed, LMan threw me not only the final mix but all the individual tracks as well out of the blue and even though we were done with Encore 64 Volume 2, all deadlines had passed and we had a final master of this track, I decided to spend two nights working on an alternative mix hoping LMan would approve it. Turns out he did, and so I feel like breakdancing over having been part of this amazing remix together with two of my idols, LMan and Romeo Knight. The electrical buzzing quality of the sounds in this remix are perfect for the SID, and the raw crunch of the drums keep it transient and smashing. Just the way I like it.

Tetris [Mariko's Tale] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Barry Leitch

Review by Danko, 29/11/2024

This remix floored me from the first time I heard it. The original was deeply formative to me, and I can tell the same goes for Barry. To couple this with Barry being even more emotionally attached to the original version than myself, I don't see anybody else being capable of delivering what he did here. You can't fake true emotions. The restraint to wait, wait, wait and then progress the arrangement ever so slowly is very difficult. Yet, Barry never lost sight of the target here. It was not easy to try and balance such a long track when mastering the final mix, I have to say. What kept me progressing on the master work was to remind myself how important I feel this remix is and will be for many years to come, to a lot of people. This remix will bring comfort to many, when they need it. It will stand tall generations to come, I am sure.

Supremacy (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Peter Clarke

Review by Jackal, 28/11/2024

To even come up with the concept of taking the Supremacy theme and taking it someplace it's never been (Morricone style) was genius… Executed perfectly. When those fat French horns kick in its *chef's kiss*… Excellent work by Mr. Clarke. I will concede that Despite my protests, Mr Clarke stuck to his guns on the musicbox section, and he was right to do it his way.

Review by LaLa, 24/11/2024

It took no less than 3 legendary members of the scene, but we finally have a remix of Compleeto that is worthy of a red smilie! Romeo's lead guitar improvs over the bed are just out of this world. But the entire arrangement is top notch, I especially like the instrumentation which is totally spot-on. Absolutely smashing!

Review by LaLa, 24/11/2024

What a lovely soundscape! In style it's bending towards fantasy-cinematic, but it's far from being as cheesy as some of those tunes can be. In fact, it's quite touching. It's also majestic and dreamy… Also, thank you for introducing me to this SID, I did not know about it before.

Green Beret (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Bass Cadet

Review by LaLa, 24/11/2024

The vocals, the Theremin… Wow.
I think it's unfortunate that the Theremin got typecast as a 'spooky' instrument only for horror movie soundtracks, because in the right hands it can be very expressive and emotional. Like here.
And then we also got a nice sax improv out of this remix, too. Pretty cool!
Welcome to the remix community, Bass Cadet! 🙂

Warhawk [feat. Bass Cadet] (Encore64 V2) - arranged by Romeo Knight

Review by LaLa, 24/11/2024

I am in absolute awe. I've listened to this remix so many times now and I still discover new details in it! That wonderful intro with the SID-sounding Theremin sets the stage already. But whenever Bass Cadet plays the lead on her Theremin here, it just sounds so delicate, so beautiful, so - perfect. Even when the lead switches to a sax here and there, it still sounds amazing. All accompanied by Romeo's guitar and that retro bossa nova drum track. The slowed down tempo (as compared to the original SID) totally works with this style. Just wonderful musicianship all along!
