Way of the Exploding Fist (Ambient Blitz Mix) - arranged by dr.blitzenReview by LaLa, 21/06/2010 This is two remixes for the price of one.The first half is a really well-done ambient remix with a mostly oriental instrumentation. I find the lead wind instrument synthetic and expressionless, otherwise, the arrangement is great. The second remix - starting at 1:55 after the big gong - is more synthy, reminding me of Tangerine Dream's early 80s era. This, I feel, is a bit weaker than the first half of the remix. If this remix ended at 1:55, it would've received a big red smiley from me, but unfortunately, the second half feels less refined to me. |

Pinball Dreams - Digital World - arranged by Char7ieReview by RikTh, 09/06/2010 From the start of AmigaRemix, only two entry lists a remix for Pinball Dreams. One is a rightdown mp3'd version of the original mod done by Deadly Cookie, the other… Well, nice try, Pirx, but no thanks. So anyone who has an original take on one of my all-time favorites on the ol' Amiga has to be congratulated upfront. But then again: how does one cover a song that consists of 4 subparts, each one in it's own right? Char7ie gives us the answer!From the start, the remix takes on it's own route, being very much more analoguein comparison to the original mod (and it's. The intro feels somewhat forcefull on comparison to the original. The synth lacks depth and echo. Also, the tempo of the overall song has dropped some 15 BPM, which is not a huge deal, but strange for someone who has listened to the original remix for some four years now… The first subsong kicks in as a very nice lead guitar is nicely shadowed by a insprirative bass- and drumtrack. High programming value of both ones, there is much variation, and the mix is beautifully composed. The lead synth though seem out of place somewhere, as if it is overacting oppose to the guitar in bends and sweeps. The guitar takes revenge in a raving solo, ending the subsong. The second subsong is again two worlds. I absolutely despise the slap-bass riff in the beginning as it is too long, too forced and clearly synthesized. But then… The main song is so composed again. Lead guitar with delays, nice chorussy riffs. drum and bass mixed in beautifully. The synths behave like they need to here, the lead synth don't overact anymore. Nice wah-wah's! The third subsong (starting off with the saxlike sounds pumping into a speedmetallike end) is… missing. Char7ie chose not to incorporate that, but end on a high leadsolo. Which is perfectly understandable, as i didn't see the point of that part of the original mod as well. Overall: Stunning guitarwork, high production value, great programming. Push back synths were needed, smooth out the intro, and we have a worthy original mix! |

Northstar - Lone in space - arranged by manganoid offlineReview by Remedy, 31/05/2010 OK I just happened to stumble upon this one and went over it quickly so I'll just recap a few points here. Although it has substance it lacks impact, you gotta keep up with consistency throughout the whole tune and from what I gather, in your song the impact comes later, at the final part of the song. You should give it an idea of a story going on around not just sticking to the basic theme trying to reinterpret it. Well I like the tune but you should come up with your own idea of the rhythm section and as how to give it more dynamics. Go back to the drawing board and rethink it again. You don't have to be into mastering thing, gotta go by your own gut feeling. I wish I could help you out but for now on I think I'll just pass this info on to you. |

Scroll Machine (5th Dream About Happiness) - arranged by LManReview by NecroPolo, 20/05/2010 First I met this tune in game BMX Kids in the highscore section. With all due to respect for Rob Hubbard, this SID for me seriously outshines the well-known digi GO-GO-GO tune, I loaded the game only for 5th Dream and let it loop, later recorded it on tape of course.For years I did not hear more about Yip but one day I got a disk with the Scroll Machine demo. I was blown away again (his other tunes were stunning as well) and I really appreciated that I did not have to load the BMX game and blow it for getting to hi-score screen as soon as possible After a big loop, in 2009 '5th Dream' was somewhere at the top of SIDs to be remixed for the album 'rakBIT'. I discovered LMan's remix somewhere around February and immediately removed the tune from the list. For me, there was no reason to remix Scroll Machine anymore. Listening to this highly perfected work I just heard what I wanted to hear. I enjoyed listening to it much more than working on my remix 'skeleton' of it. It was no reason to continue work with this SID, I just sat back and enjoyed this awesome rendition. Much time passed but it remained one of my favs even since. |

Test Drive 2 - Relax & Clip Your Belt - arranged by gibsReview by Byproduct, 14/05/2010 Excellent production here. Sounds nice and has a few creative ideas here and there. Nothing to complain about, really.This is a problematic tune to remix, however, because the original is very short and has little substance in it. Either the remix remains equally short, keeps repeating the same notes too long, or, as in this case, the remixer composes some of his own stuff on it. It is a pleasure to listen to, but in my mind doesn't fully connect to the original track. I'm going to have to subtract one grade for that reason, but this is probably as good as a TD2 remix is going to get. |

Wizardry (Marco Polo Edit) - arranged by Dr FutureReview by LaLa, 12/05/2010 As a fan of Rondo Veneziano, I've instantly recognized their pop-renaissance style in this remix, so I guess that's a good thing.Unfortunately, where this remix falls flat is in the instrumentation. The winds (flutes, piccolos, etc.) and the strings are especially lacking in sonic detail. And that Korg preset overused by Enigma and others at 1:16 is just too tacky for me. Add it all up and the end result comes out sounding somewhat cheap. I do like the drums, though, and I do like the arrangement of the remix, it just needs a bit more attention to the instrumentation details. |

Navy Moves - arranged by SIDrip AllianceReview by LaLa, 03/05/2010 Whoa, quite a tour de force! Great job, guys, great job! However, allow me to provide some critique of this great remix.First of all, whether due to mixing or arrangement, the remix sounds a bit too chaotic. Yes, Navy Moves demands a powerful remix like this, but this may be just a wee bit too much of a good thing. Sounds like everything was mixed in on the same level and thus, there's no separation of the tracks. Second, that lead kicking in at 1:14 is rather weak. C'mon, a tune like this needs powerful electric guitars for lead, not a wah-wah filtered synth! Either that, or mix it in more to the front and add some more effects to it to make it stand out from the near-chaotic drums and bass. Third, I know that Navy Moves is looping tune, but the ending of this remix leaves me unsatisfied. If you're interested, drop me an email and I'll tell you what kind of ending do I imagine for this SID. All in all, definitely the best Navy Moves remix to date, but I'm still awaiting for the ultimate one. |

I did it and was blown awayPlease, listen to the boys and learn the dark secrets of mastering. It will improve all things on the long run. You already have the chops, the idea and style. You just need to power up the sound to the level of the other fine elements. Besides, I'm really glad that someone took the huge challenge of remixing Kjell's excellent music. Have my respect for that! |

I mentioned plastic orchestra in the shout before. Well, as it turned out, the instrument that you can hear here is a real trumpet, supported with synth brass. The layer of plastic orchestra totally tricked my ears. But, why is that important - and why is it important to change the comment? Because real instruments have souls. They require much time, skill, heart, care and attention. Without all of that, they just make noise and don't sing. I have a full respect of this. It just deserved a more detailed feedback. |

Heavy metal guitars, blistering lead guitar solos, great drumming. Top-notch production.The mixing seems a bit off, though, the vocals are a bit too soft. And the singer's voice should be more raspy. It all started some month ago when looking for vintage computer game related music (originals and remixes as well) for playing them at Retro Games eV. In Karlsruhe, Germany. A good friend of mine just brought an extra CD… and this very version of Magic Afternoon was there. At first I just ignored the (for me) unknown title. It was after some weekends that it accidentally got livewhile I was attending some customers… … that was amazing! Some people stopped playing at the arcade machines and pinballs just for asking what the name of the tune was, or for some that were more savvy than me, for asking which interpreter did that version of Magic Afternoon Huh? Dunno… This interpretation just fixed my attention making me getting curious for hearing at the original version, and after doing so I was more that thrilled when realizing how amazingly well this remix version was planed and performed. Except here it's rendered in baroque. Ish.Some of the instruments are a bit too sterile sounding, and I miss the vocals that make this remix pale in comparison to some live renditions. Still, a valiant effort and rather enjoyable. |

Knucklebusters (PSX Music2000 edit) - arranged by TomskReview by Windshield_CB, 30/01/2010 Don't let the comments fool you - finding a Knucklebusters remix too long is like finding a Grateful Dead cover band too jammy; such a complaint completely misses the point of the original. This is by far the best remix yet of this challenging song, and the only version which even comes close to the original's crunchy, aggro bass.While the truth in labelling here is no more than a happy accident, it's a very, very happy accident indeed - this remix takes the C64 original and forces it through the sonic sensibilities of the musical schizoid men of the 21st century. Like the 21st century itself, it's a little too sterile in places (I really dislike the patch used for the majority of the main theme(~3:00 - ~8:00) - sounds far too MIDI; and the original's sliding, squealing, distorted bass at the nine-minute mark has been reduced to staccaco keyboards). The rhythm section for the final solos is so good that it almost compells one to forgive the slightly under-polished, late-stage Beta releasethat is the majority of the final solo itself. |

The beat is really catchy and thumpin'. Cool effects and stuff to go with the beat. Structure is actually pretty interesting and keeps you listeing to see whats next. Only downside with these kind of remixes is that the closer you get to a *real* dancefloor remix the further you get from the original. DaXX went all the way to get this to the floorand it succeeded with highest marks. DaXX fattest remix to date (and I've probably heard them all). |

I caught myself whistling it this morning.I really like the happy chillout style of the remix, I especially like how all the arpeggios have been carefully converted to chords. The bass is a tad weak to my ears, in fact, the entire remix has a slight squeakiness to it. I also wish it used the stereo space better, it sounds too mono. However, those are small gripes - this is a real gem and a joy to listen to! |

Silent Service II Title Remix - arranged by CZ TunesReview by neglesaks, 12/01/2010 (review updated July/2017): This is one of the best Amiga remixes in a long time. This one packs a punch with a solid bass presence ad a clearly marked tempo/beat line. There is a *very* nice use of sonar pings as part of the arrangement which hammers home the felling that this takes place not just at sea, this is outright naval action! The choice of instruments works very well and as an added sprinkling of goodies, it has some samples from a well known motion picture in the same alley as this game. All in all, this is a very good remix that really hits home the feeling of naval maneuvers and wargames. Well done CZ! |

Cybernoid II (80's-Style-Edit) - arranged by C64toBit64Review by LaLa, 04/01/2010 I understand the brave decision to re-work the entire melody line of Cybernoid to make it sound more 80's - but for crying out loud, the original is already a great melody in the 80's style, so why the re-write? Unfortunately, I just can't get over this re-write, even though all the 80's sounds and cliches are in there.Up until 1:24 I had high hopes, but from that point on it's just doesn't sound very pleasing to my ears. Plus there is little variation in there, so in the end this 6+ minute remix is just plain boring. |

Commando (Sound of SceneSat Edit) - arranged by FirestormReview by Xorcerer, 22/12/2009 Hubbard's tunes are probably the most popular and recognized in the8-bitcommunity. This guy has really set an all-time high standard for gametunes. And he constantly pushed the audio coding up to it's limits, creating new effects which others mimicked and based upon. This is why it is very hard to catch up to his brilliant spirit (even though hard technology is now far beyond dreams of the past). It is also very hard NOT to loose this spirit in flood of new technical tricks. Simplicity, power, pride - this is what it takes to take Hubbard's tunes beyond original blipping 3-channels. This Commando rmx is even better than IK+, to me both are just filled with the right energy up to the limits. There might be a little better synth orchestra - but still this qualifies for the best remix of 2009. |

Great intro, interesting Hammond lead, I kinda like the improvisational midpart jamming (where it steers away from the original), horribly abrupt change to edginess towards the end, way too abrupt ending, and that's what really brought down my rating for this remix. |
