Green Beret (live at The Church) - arranged by Reyn OuwehandReview by LaLa, 05/12/2007 As I'm writing these words in 2016, I can't believe this remix is already 9 years old. Since its release I haven't stopped listening to it - it has a visceral staying power, it etches itself into your brain and it doesn't let go. This tune is a perfect example of Reyn's astonishing talent for the layer-by-layer improvisational style that he brilliantly demonstrated during every single I consider myself very lucky to have experienced the creative force of Reyn, the creative force of Martin Galway on the C64, and this remix of his tune in particular as interpreted by Reyn. And don't forget to check out cosmiq's remix of this remix which transforms it into yet another amazing interpretation. |

House 6581 (club mix - short edit) - arranged by DafunkReview by infamous, 02/11/2007 I have absolutely no idea of the original tune so can't really get the link between the two but lets face facts off the bat here, dafunk know's his stuff and wouldn't write something completely out of context unless thats what it was. This is a remix, its doing whats said on the tin. The first thing that strikes me is the beginning (funny that should happen at the start aint it.. way to make myself sound like roger ebert) but it smacks of all the large progressive trance outfits, a slightly dubby low slung stabbing and straight into the 4t24 drumbeat and slowly building up to a very very sweet vocal. On the way to that point it has a beautiful soundscape which really does give it that clubby feel (so you succeeded with getting what you was looking for) and if I was still going out and getting drunk every week id definitely dance to this. So what about beyond? well lets talk about the mainline for a second.. genius trance work without a shadow of a doubt, its alot harder to write a decent trance tune than most people would realise (took me a while to realise this too) and dafunks done just that. As I said in my shout this would chart very high in the uk charts, I'd even go as far to say that it'd find itself getting airplay on radio shows and sitting no1 in the dance charts before armand van helden re-releases another one of his tunes heh. Technically speaking there isnt anything to fault, all the levels are perfect, the synths/drums etc clear and concise, no off notes no screw ups.. perfect production. and unless you really dont like trance music (in which case i 2nd dafunks "go away dont download it then") a damn good bar for the rest of the "dance" artists on this site to work from. remix of the year for me without a shadow of a doubt, unless paul van dyke comes on this site and releases a remix, that accolade is safe :p |

Hero Quest - arranged by XenobiozReview by Jackal, 26/09/2007 While the sounds are OK, I mean they are decent modern representatives of the amiga samples, this is where remixing becomes an art, you need to embelish the parts that simply dont work with synth sounds, you gotta try and take what the original samples were trying to do, and take it one step further.. A good example of that is where the strums were playing repetatively, on the amiga it sounded great, cos it was strums, and they were there, but when you're using real sounds, well nobody would mindlessly strum away like that, so you have to embellish it with fingering etc.. Gotta rate this one pretty low as there seems like there wasnt much work done other than load new sounds |

Hero Quest - Piano - arranged by PTYReview by Jackal, 26/09/2007 Very good, its amazing how the use of expression really gives the piece emotion that I'd never heard there before. When I remixed it for immortal 3 I cut the piece short as I felt that musically it was weak and if I continued the piece, it would have been too repetative. So it's a breath of fresh air to hear this.. Makes me wanna finish the remix.. INcidentally, the arpeggios towards the end were a "nod" to combo racer that i'd written previously.. |

Lotus 2 Theme (FST cover) - arranged by fstReview by Jackal, 26/09/2007 Nice guitar work, sadly the backing chords are a bit out of tune Lead work is good tho.. The drums could have used some more work too.. Shoot me an email and maybe we can work together on something, its always hard to find a good guitarist.. |
|
Green Beret Full Orch - arranged by Allister BrimbleReview by Jackal, 12/09/2007 Excellent work Allister, definitely one of Galways strongest pieces, and love the bassoon work.. Attention to detail sets it head and shoulders above the other remixes.. |

Thrust - arranged by Romeo KnightReview by Brian, 15/08/2007 Extremly well guitar playing: in time, with feeling, good vibrato and little gimmicks. The best i heard so far concerning c64 remixes. But not only well played, also very tastefull and the arrangement is far more than power cords with one, and the melody with the other guitar. I especially like how the bridge(?) is done with harmonics. Very original! The rhythm guitar is quite loud, compared to the melody. It's ok for me because it makes the track quite heavy and i wouldn't call it unbalanced. In my opinion the overall sound is a bit lacking. Though the tuned down base (or is it a 5 String?) sounds great, the drums do not match the guitar sound that well. The drum sound should by more dry, a bit more dirty and less sterile, witch would be more fitting to the modern sounding guitar. But hey, this would mean to hire a drummer and spend much money recording it. So this is not really fair to critizise it. Besides, the sound is far better than another rock version of Thrust (maybe you know whitch i mean), which wasn't even quite in time and tuning, though the guys sell it. |

Driven21 (tiny rmx) - arranged by DafunkReview by DJB, 26/07/2007 This is the first time that someone has covreed one of my tunes, and I LOVE IT!!! I knew that this would sound nice after reading the comments, but its absolutely awsome. I love the drum change too, a little more upbeat than what I originally wrote the song to be, but a nice change. I can take or leave the quotes through it, it does add that little extra which is good. Hopefully I can come across a few more of my tunes remixed in the future. 😊 |

Druid II - arranged by daXX offlineReview by Instant Remedy, 26/04/2007 Real well executed commercial-sounding remix, top marks for technical achievement and sound! Impressive.Although, I can't really say why I don't want to push play on winamp again. There wasn't any "magic" even if it sounded oustanding. It sounds really like a song from the Replay-series (Replay Dance Mania etc.) with remixed hits from the 80s and 90s which are lined up and machine-gunned out by popular remixers. I don't mean daXX made this in a coffe-break, I'm sure he had himself working many hours to get it sounding this good. The voice becomes a little too much at times, could have been used less with better effect. I also agree that the sound is a bit to "hard" to fit the original, just like the case with most remixes in the Replay-series. There is something missing to keep it interesting even if it has a sound which is way above standards for this genre at RKO. But I'll be looking for daXX at RKO in the future! |

Druid II - arranged by daXX offlineReview by DHS, 20/04/2007 Techically perfect, commercial techno at his best. I have no complaints: it features a lot of dancey tricks to keep the track interesting and it totally centers the objective: making a *real* contemporary commercial track out of a sid. I must say that maybe this is the remix on RKO that manages to better cover that task.so: -Technically perfect. -Target centered 100%. -Features all the tricks. For me is a red, totally deserved. |

The Great Giana sisters - arranged by EzpRadoReview by liontamer, 12/03/2007 Pretty straightforward arrangement, but well-produced. Nice change in dynamics with the dropping out of the beats, the stuttering rhythm arranging the source, plus the pad fading in at 1:05.Melody finally comes in at 1:25. The beatwork was produced nicely, but felt like it could have been more impactful. Good tradeoffs between the synth lead and the stuttering synth handling the melody, as well as changing the supporting instrumentation, present throughout the rest of the track. While the track didn't introduce new sound/writing ideas after a certain point, there was still a noticeable sense of making the arrangement evolve and develop over time. The melodic leads constantly traded off, while the background combinations shifted constantly as well. The track does feel a bit too samey after a while despite EzpRado attempting to vary things up. The synths, the beatwork, etc. dragged after hearing them used so much, IMO negatively affecting the replayability of the piece. The emergence of new sounds and writing ideas, like the ending section from 4:13-4:44, should have been used earlier in the track to keep things fresh. Could have been stronger and introduced more ideas into the picture over time, which holds it back a bit, but what's here is fairly good. |

Aztec Challenge (run of despair) - arranged by Andrea BaroniReview by LMan, 24/02/2007 Parts of this arrangement are absolutely fantastic, others are a bit dissapointing. For instance, the guitar part at 1:43 should be much more bassy heavy (Rammstein esque), maybe an octave lower. Some of the melody variations don't seem to work very well, because the original arrangement is so powerful - kind of disappointed anticipation. Still - very good effort, only so close from being really outstanding. |

Last Ninja 2 (Electro Ninja Mix) - arranged by Gecko YamoriReview by Covenant, 18/02/2007 Excellent remake of a classic track. Gotta love those heavy rich synth sounds, love this song… playing as we speak… keep up the awesome work 😊 |

Come Around (Turrican 2 - Level 1 Remix) - arranged by Remix IncReview by skyrunner, 04/02/2007 A nice idea to add lyrics and the guitars to the remix. But why didn't you add some FX like Reverb or Delay to the vocals??? They sound a little inappropriate while the guitar fits very well on the other hand. And basically the vocals are good. You clearly can sing. You gave away a lot of potential with the vocals. So average rating for the technical merit. The idea is very good and I basically like the lyrics. Guitars are very good. The tune has a good range of variety and never gets boring. A very good rating for the artistry. The nostalgia is always difficult to judge I think. With the added vocals its like a complete new tune but its still recognizeable. Good rating for the Nostalgia. |

Come Around (Turrican 2 - Level 1 Remix) - arranged by Remix IncReview by LMan, 02/02/2007 Bonus score for really great fun! This would work great as a soundtrack for a cheesy 80s Turrican movie. There's a great technical flaw though - the bass track is barely audible, or at times seems inaudible.Advise: have someone help you do a proper mix / master of this tune, and this would be a real real winner! |

FunKus - arranged by DafunkReview by LMan, 01/02/2007 Once again, Dafunk completely lives up to his name: this is pure funk. In this great arrangement, Dafunk combines old-school with modern elements, and includes bits and parts of the original SID sound here and there. Truly impressive! |
|
Atmosphere (Touching the Sky) - arranged by HazelReview by LMan, 01/02/2007 Mostly well produced, but it seems to me that emptiness in the arrangement is attempted to be concealed by over-use of reverb. Still, pretty enjoyable bouncy tune. |
|
Sonic Soul - arranged by JBReview by LMan, 01/02/2007 Starts off lounge-esque, great ambience, choice of instruments and effects. Fantastic saxophone part. Then, it suddenly morphs into a (rather ordinary) dance tune, and after a while back again. Flawless, professional production. |
|
Moments of Everydayness - arranged by Markus HollerReview by LMan, 01/02/2007 Very high marks on the artistic and technical scale, no doubt about the professionality behind this remix. On the other hand, it is also quite hard to enjoy - this is sophisticated music, not fit for casual listening. |
|
Lotus Turbo Challenge II - Intro - Turbo Disco Mix - arranged by Laín CoubertReview by Jackal, 24/01/2007 Not a bad remix / arrangement. bonus points for not drowning everything in reverb.. Coulda done more with it I think.. My remix on immortal 2 for example😉 |
|
Utopia - Ingame - Utopia revisited - arranged by DaytaReview by Jackal, 24/01/2007 Nice remix, interesting angle, I like the rap, the octave fx are very nice.. woulda been nice to hear a little more of the original in there.. Still.. very good job.. |
|
TFX_Intro_Game_Remix_2_0 - arranged by damongpReview by Jackal, 24/01/2007 Nice instruments, but drowned in reverb. Would have been nice to hear some remixing other than a straight transposition. If you were going to change the "3rd segment into rock, from techno, you should have gone all out, metallica style chugging guitars in the background, and a lead played to make your ears bleed.. I'm touched that you felt the piece worthy enough to spend the time on.. |

Last Ninja - The Palace - arranged by Instant RemedyReview by mythoslogos, 14/01/2007 Last Ninja - The Palace is a nice opening for Instant Remedy, a CD for those who love techno-trance arrangements. Some tracks in IR go on for too long, but overall sound-quality is nice, so what are you waiting for? |

Sanxion / Thalamusic (Imposing Sanxions Mix) - arranged by Chris AbbottReview by Tomsk, 09/01/2007 Still stands up strong today - mainly because of the excellent mixing of original SID with enhancements. First C64 remix tune I ever heard, and it made me quite emotional to hear those SID sounds blended into this mix. Will always have a soft spot for the highlight of this pioneering album |

Comic Bakery (feat Hanna Kappelin & Morpheus) - arranged by o2Review by omoroca, 28/11/2006 When I heard the names… o2, Marcel Donné and Mahoney, my (along with moog) overall favorite remixing guys (especially Donné, who is my god of c64 remixes); Hanna Kappelin, the very best singer in the c64 scene; Martin Galway, the best composer on the c64 (Yes, better than Hubbard!), with one of his best songs, Comic Bakery… I thought this remix must be sooo intergalactic - but then it wasn't.It's still outstanding, though! Good work, guys!!! 😉 |

The last ninja - palace gardens (loader) - arranged by wk-oneReview by cyphax, 06/11/2006 Warning upfront: my favorite Remix64 track is Tonka's version of this same song. I'm also a big fan of the original SID. That puts the bar way up… well up there, quite high. Not all too fair perhaps, but c'est la vie. This arrangement isn't bad. But I wouldn't wanna call it great either. So, it's average, hence the rating. Except nostalgia, cause it's very faithful to the original, that is a plus. What could wk-one do to make this better and rise above average? Let's start off at the first 2 minutes: they're in desperate need of… shape. Shape? Shape. It's too plain right now, and it doesn't really have… well, shape. Or a face. You pick, it's all just terminology: download and listen to the song and it becomes clear in about 2 minutes what I'm trying to say. Fortunately, after these 2 minutes (you know what, it's actually 2:12, but that's for nitpickers) the song starts to show its true face ever so slightly, with drums and just generally more sound, more flair. Unfortunately it's still not convincing enough to blow you away or anything. The way I see it, this is a fine foundation, but you have to build the house on top or you still end up without a roof over your head. If this is a first attempt, it's surely not bad at all. Just add some bells 'n whistles. |

Myth Remix - arranged by Suvak ZajosReview by Makke, 04/11/2006 I really like this from a technical stand point. Recreating those sounds on the Virus is very impressive. However, the end result is too much like the original, and towards the end it sounds just like a crappy SID+drums effort remix/remake - something I just can't enjoy. So while I admire Suvak's technical skills, the resulting remake just isn't that exciting. Frankly, I'd rather listen to the original. I think Mr. Zajos should take those sounds he created for this remake, because they are absolutely brilliant, and use it in some original production of his. That would be awesome! |

Deflektor (REMIXED-3v1-) - arranged by DeesReview by beyond, 01/10/2006 Just heard this as I'm going through my collection of old remixes. I must say that I really like it and I agree with FLOAF (above). Produced in 2002, some of the sounds are maybe a bit tame, but others are very well put together. I like this! |
|
Scroll Machine (5th Dream About Happiness) - arranged by LManReview by guru512, 26/09/2006 the original c64 track was so hot. I listened to it countless times. it was just really crazy shit! This is a prefect cover. it also sounds great. but the c64 original is of course unbeatable, the SID just rulez!!! |
|
Ultima IV - The Complete - arranged by choscReview by immacolata, 09/09/2006 My favourite Ultima-remixer must be chosc. Not a lot bother with this sound track. This remix is perhaps his best attempt. It sounds like he is gathering old attempts into a larger model, a potpourri. It is a nice task, since the original soundtracks are short tunes with no real connection between them save their medieval theme. |
