Congo Bongo (Smothering Cow Remix) - arranged by DJ KinkyReview by almightyc64, 06/06/2003 Short, but fast paced remix of the Congo Bongo tune. Not much used from the original music, but still interesting to listen to. Overall a good tune and it's part of my regular playlist. |

Spy vs Spy II (Late Nite Mellow) - arranged by RauliReview by almightyc64, 06/06/2003 This really is an excellent remix. It plays quite a bit slower than the original tune, but it's very enjoyable to listen to and stays very close to the original. I'd say Late Nite Mellow is a perfect way of describing this. One of my favorite remixes for sure. |

Wizball Hiscore (Bossa Mix) - arranged by Eric DelosReview by almightyc64, 06/06/2003 This is an excellent remix of the Wizball Hiscore tune. Very relaxing to listen to with a terrific repetitive beat. I never really appreciated the original SID music from this game, but this Remix gave me a whole new appreciation of the high score theme. This is more than just your usual remix in that it's close enough to the original to be recognizable, yet goes off in it's own direction with great results. Top notch!Forrest http://almighty. c64. org |

Dragons Lair II - Indian Remix - arranged by choscReview by bar, 05/06/2003 Is it possible that this remix lies so down in the chart?Ok, it doesn't sound commercial, has no rhetorical constructions or structures, even the drum path sounds strange and the lead vocal track is a bit too reverberated to melt perfectly with the music carpet, but - no doubt - this version of Dragon's Lair II is by far one of the most original remixes on the RKO. Chosc had some very good ideas, like the way many sounds enter and exit from the (quite repetitive) melodic texture, and like the fusion of electronic sounds (keybords and bass) with the indian-like singing and percussions, ending the tune with the Europeanclassical sound of the pipeorgan. The result is, in my opinion, very artistic and, even if undoubted very dark and a bit gloomy, it may be considered a fair example of the way a C64-remix should be done. |

Last Ninja Wastelands (again) - arranged by QReview by soren_ladegaard, 05/06/2003 I'm more into covers than remixes. I therefore think this cover is quite good. Thesoundmay be a bit too thin, but I like the way the tune is covered. Especially the bassline which covers the original perfectly. Memorylane here I come |

Hardcore Hubbard Mix - arranged by Jogeir LiljedahlReview by phreak_paradize, 04/06/2003 Hmmm what to write, what to say and what to do.. Jogeir is awsome, unfortunately I've never come across any C64 work of his, if such exists, but alot of his amiga material in mod format is amongst the best ever created. This tune is abit too guitarish for me to flatly fall for it. But the overall technical aspect of the tune is astounding, as is all work Jogeir does. It was a pleasant surprise to find a mix of mr. Liljedahl among the lot at RKO. Way to go mister. |

Speedball - arranged by Clayton and Stafford MarslandReview by maindrian, 01/06/2003 Its darn good this. In its more frenetic moments, I can imagine a John Woo style action sequence or something. Somebody once told me that good music can be defined by the mental image you get when you hear it, very true in this case. It would soundtrack a good spy movie very well. Chilled out moments give the listener a chance to breathe, but this track is at its best when the pedal is to the metal. Its not without its faults. The rythm guitar is occasionally a little hard to pick up, but the lead sounds absolutley fantastic. An odd remix, what with all the time changes and everything, but well worth checking out. |

WOW Reggae (Chilln Out) - arranged by Joe [Stainless Steel] BarwickReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 A classic Laxity tune covered in Laxity-relaxed style.Chilln Outis the right subtitle for this mix. Arrangement is OK. Some sounds are maybe SID (or emulated), but good. Starts off with some clicks, delayed in stereo, and ends before the last note is faded out: not that impressive technical work. |

The Great Giana Sisters (trance-like mix) - arranged by AnDras PosztReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 Trance without the rhythm that I'd expect for such a remix-style. Sounds very interesting and relaxed, but not boring at all. The piano is nice, the filters not over-used. Very good mixage.Maybe the best remix of this SID, it has everything from the original except for the rhythm that we know already too good. |
Cybernoid II (trance-like mix) - arranged by AnDras PosztReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 Generic drums from Rebirth, not so bad synth-sounds for the lead, even some breaks where they should be, good mixage, but:a bit of missing a good idea and a nice touch all over. DHS' remix of Cybernoid 2 (Cyber Pede) is still the best around, but if you're looking especially for some trance-alike mix, get this one. |

Crazy Comets (Live at The Gathering 2003) - arranged by PRESS PLAY ON TAPEReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 Played live and very lifely, and even sounding very good. One of the few mixes with very well-done EQed guitars. Groovy and it is has thatplay it again-feel to it. One of the few remixes that is hard to fit into words, so just take my word and have a listen. |
Giana Sisters (4th level) - arranged by troubyReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 A pan-flute playing the lead: ok, good idea. The sub-bass on the drums is killing me softly… too much of it and the rhythm itself is surely also not very inventive. |
Tai Pan (Jumpin' J Remix) - arranged by Sonic WandererReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 Sonic in freestyle-mode, and what starts Asian-sounding ends up in piano-house,and you also get some beautiful guitar-notes. A real remix, but not dumping the ideas of the original. Mixage is high quality, so this is something I can't dare to only call very good |
Last Ninja Wastelands (again) - arranged by QReview by putzi, 31/05/2003 THE classic tune of all Last Ninja-tunes, this time very close-to-life done withthe sound of a pan-flute and some other rather authentic-sounding of what we Europeans think is Asian 😉 This is not a remix, is it a cover-version and I have to think about if I should do myself a new version of this SID since this version is really good. The only negative aspects to me are: - sub-bass far too loud (and this is only the bass of the bass-line, not the drums) - a good mix, but encoded in only 128K/Bit |

Parallax (MC Version) - arranged by CytexReview by craigg, 30/05/2003 Seasoned C64 remix aficionados with no doubt already have a plethora of Parallax reworkings, including those on the Back in Time CDs and CD-ROMs, so do we need another? Cytex's fairly straight version smoothes out the original harsh exterior, creating a warm, engrossing take on Galway's track, which only falters on occasion when the slightly piercing lead take precedence or slips from the original's melody. Generally, the sounds are well thought out, especially the relaxed drums, and fans of the original should take a look. |

Wizzball (Full guitar Intro rmx) - arranged by JazzoidReview by eliot, 27/05/2003 It started indeed quite promissing, but it ends just too early Maybe Jazzoid is kind and provide us a full length remix? |
Parallax (MC Version) - arranged by CytexReview by eliot, 27/05/2003 Oh oh - all the flair and punch of the original went away… very sad. Cytex turned it into somethingnice, and my opinion is, Parallaxwas not intend to be niceSo, the nice remix is just nice, nothing more, nothing less. |
The Great Giana Sisters (trance-like mix) - arranged by AnDras PosztReview by eliot, 27/05/2003 It seems Andras gets a passion fortrance-likemixes Besides the repeatations it's a nice attempt. Maybe the remix is a bit too conservative to kick it manages to keep the flair of the original. |
Cybernoid II (trance-like mix) - arranged by AnDras PosztReview by eliot, 27/05/2003 Quite a nice attempt. I miss the flair of the original, maybe because Andras tried to be too close on the original and limited his own expression. The sound-fxs are neat and the coice of instruments convenient. The tune is too long in my opinion, and gets a bit boring. |
Last Ninja Wastelands (again) - arranged by QReview by eliot, 27/05/2003 The 24783294th remix of Last Ninja - and nothing spectacular here.Qis close to the original not inventing any improvements or experiments. Average work overall. |
Speedball - arranged by Clayton and Stafford MarslandReview by bruce, 26/05/2003 Starts off with an easy listeningtest cardmusic style, lulling you into a false sense of chilled out mood music before launching into an all out manic speedball frenzy - waking you up with a punch in the face. Just as you enter a lighter moment, and are recovering with a few seconds rest from your rude awakening, you are then smacked with another full-on dose of speedball. This pattern continues throughout the song. This is a fantastic remix which captures the manic nature of the original perfectly, and enhances it to new levels. A couple of wrong notes are easily ignored as you are taken on this crazy roller coaster ride. Turn up the volume nice and loud for this one! |

Mega Apocalypse - arranged by N-JOYReview by alhambraproject, 24/05/2003 It is stupid but when I first heard this song in 2000, I was in love with the woman… who is she? Is she real? I have listened to this song… maybe 100 times, it was crazy… now 3 years have passed… and I still think that this remix is original just because N-Joy has the good idea to put a female voice… such sort of thing bring life to the song… a resurection… |
Mega Apocalypse - arranged by N-JOYReview by wbdeejay, 21/05/2003 A classic energetic dance mix which maintains some choice sound elements from the SID original. The vocal section is a nice touch, creating a japanese anime feel. The original Hubbard track is still a blast (excuse the pun) and this remix puts a smile on your face which will stay there long after the track's finished!! Warning!! this track will get stuck in your head all day! |
Last Ninja Remix (Armakuni in New York) - arranged by YoshiReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 A remix of a remix… interesting… better a cover of a remix. There is not much to write… it's a bit boring, like the original, it's a 1:1 cover that lacks of own inspiration. While the drums are set on the left and right edge of the stereo-panorama, the lead is set just beside the middle.. very strange. The end of the song is a bit abrupt. Maybe a different choice of instruments would have helped the song to overcome the averagerating. |
Last Ninja 2 - Park Loader (Rumbler Remix) - arranged by MaindrianReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 I guess I have already noticed that loud guitars are not at best, when they are overhelming the rest of the tune. It's a sound-mish-mash not a listenable tune. Maybe my Sennheiser headphones renders the tune as sound-mish-mash and the other reviewers are 100% correct - anyways I need to vote the tune this way. |
Last Ninja 2 Central Park (full direct cover-mix) - arranged by PutziReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 Well, this IS one of the millions Last Ninja 2 remixes. The tune is lifeless, the soul of the original vanished. Music is not just some notes and beats it is primiary an attempt to transfer feelings - Sascha was not able to do it. Next time he should choose the instruments more wisely and arrange with his heart not with his brain. |
Suicide Express - arranged by BaRReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 While in the early 80ies the C-64 musicians were not able to create neat instruments and effects, the most tunes of this time renders somehow lifeless. In my opionion it's much harder toremixsuch a tune. BaR did an exceptional good job and a very creative and inspired attempt, also the technical approach is very good. There is nothing negative to write, only the last kickis missing to vote for outstanding. |
Very Short (Very Sweet) - arranged by MaindrianReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 Quite a 1:1 cover… ok, but nothing special. There is not much to write, it does not fit for me, neither the original does. |
Sacred Armour of Antiriad - arranged by GZILLAReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 Antiriad - it took me hours to rip the SID.This is Gzilla's best attempt so far. Maybe next time he manages to do a very good remix While normaly an intro of a tune migrate to a more powerful part he choose to soften it, that was totally unexpected and confusing - maybe it's not when you never heard the original. At 2:20 the most interesting part of this tune starts, were he got close to the spirit of the original, but I miss the scary, cold feeling of Richard Joseph original especially at the beginning. The instruments itself sound cheap and the original fx at the end of the song are out of context - sometimes less is more. |
Scumball - arranged by Dan TootillReview by eliot, 17/05/2003 This is one of Tim Follins tunes, I do not like due the very high frequence notes they sound likecriesand that really hurt my ears The original is very short so it may be unwise to choose it for a remix. The bassline (-fx) is overhelming the whole tune and there is a glitch playing this awefull high notes (there is an unharmonic note in). Dan did a 1:1 cover with very less own inspiration, and he choose an electronic instrument for the lead very similar to the orgininal SID. |
