Story

Actually, it was Slaygon that dragged me into doing this remix in the first place. He visited The Church when he did his European roundtrip. While he was in the Netherlands we thought it would be nice if we did a late night Sunday Service impromptu….

He asked me to do a rendition of Green Beret, but I said I wasn't too sure since I didn't knew the song that well. But after some pushing and hessitation I took the challange and the basis of this remix and improvisation was born.

For fun I later recorded another 10-minute live-version with some camera's which you can still see at YouTube if you want:

After quiet some request for an 'audio'-version I made some cuts here and there and tried to mix this 6-minute version as good as I could get it. And here is the result.

I hope you'll enjoy it!

Cheers,

Reyn.

Very Impressive, well done!
Is there anything Reyn CAN`T do! Nuff said.
Awesome Jam a la King Crimson '74! I've to admit I like youtube's version better... Just because it's longer!
Did I mention I wanna join to Your church?:)
Flash Bastard - Awesome - now get a hair cut - lol AWESOME TOTALLY
:) enjoyed the entire session :) thumbs up!
This is ultimate!
Have you contacted mr Galway about this?
A sublime remix, though GB has never quite done it for me. Now a version of the Parallax remix done live this year...!
Great, absolutely great!
The only wrong I can find with this remix is that the electric piano is too grungy for my taste. Otherwise, this is great, great stuff.
Absolutely stunning. Top-3 c64 remixes eva!
Amazing rendition. My vote is strongly biased by the video version which just blew my mind. :D
Weeeeeeeeeee! Fantastic! Oh my god! I just look at yuoutube! Oh my god!
Its ok but not among the best
Just outstanding work.
One of my fav five all-time-tunes. Saw the video on youtube, great! Can´t judge the technical stuff here, I am just listening, again and again. If songs sound great, I just want to appreciate them. Back to childhood :-)
Couldn't stop listening to the Live SundayService version - this redone studio version is beyone belief, simply the definition of perfection
Awesome rulage by master reyn rockin the curch. Amen!
Stunning result of a live presentation! And all in sync. - Reyn shows you here how easy it is to make a c64 remix in few mins...8-)

This works very well for introducing someone to the Sunday Service shows broadcast on SLAYradio
Awesome! Kinda reminds me of Pink Floyd :)
Amazing.
Absolutely outstanding, all instruments are excellent.
Outstanding, brilliant, excellent, awesome.
I emailed Martin Galway and gave him the link to the You Tube version and he replied stating Reyn rocks.. Outstanding track, Awesome stuff Mr O
Nothing left to say...
This is absolutely one of my top ten favourites around here. Absolutely brilliant performance and beautiful guitar play!
Perfekt!
Don
Absolutely fantastic!
I can't listen to a synth-only remake after this.
This should be number one! Even if it had nothing to do with Green Beret it would be a hit.
I'm not familiar with the original SID song but I loved it.
Reyn, oustanding show at X2008! Stan of Hitmen...
Love it to bits! Feel compelled to play the air drums whilst driving along to this tune!
I never fail to request this one when listening to SLAY... A Classic.
Stunning.
Nice cover. Good.

Very nice. Update:This obviously deserves an outstanding. Amazing. This is a flowing, imaginative, original composition. Everything comes together.
Nothing short of phenomenal.

After hearing this a few times, your realise the gradual and sometimes subtle changes Reyn does for his intro. However, when you know the drums mark the beginning of the action, you're constantly waiting and feel tortured until they do kick in.

Reyn has used a very appropriate set of instruments for this remix, but I'm afraid to say that his decision to perform it in a 'live' setting has led to degradation of what I can hear the guitar do - I often have to apply dynamic audio enchancement to fully immerse myself. A nice ending is achieved by the slow and subtle fading down of every instrument to that final few notes done by one unit.

Does it capture the environment the SID does? No - Galway has this music sounding like a dawn chorus; Reyn has made it over the top and turned it to a different meaning. However, has Reyn applied his own style and succeeded as a result of it? Definitely!

This track is still as mind-blowing as it was when I first heard that and this is the most inspiring SID remix I've ever heard. Even more surely it is based on the best idea to date.

Ok, incredible. This shows that music is not hundred of instrument, neither sophisticated effects. Hearing this song prompts lots of unusual feelings, loneliness, relaxing, mistery…

It is quite difficult to review it, because there is not a lot of examples to compare. It is unique. Don't ask me exactly why, but it is to start to hear it, and anybody realizes that it is out of the common.

The best, and only a miracle could make it better.

One of the best C64 Remixes I've ever noticed. The instruments are great, the song could be a ballade from Metallica, the technical quality is awesome and the tune is unforgettable. The sound gives a feeling about the tension before the battle of green beret, more as the original tune could ever do. One of my everlasting favourite C64 remix 😊

As I'm writing these words in 2016, I can't believe this remix is already 9 years old. Since its release I haven't stopped listening to it - it has a visceral staying power, it etches itself into your brain and it doesn't let go. This tune is a perfect example of Reyn's astonishing talent for the layer-by-layer improvisational style that he brilliantly demonstrated during every single Sunday Service broadcast on Slay Radio. It's melancholic, powerful, hopeful all at the same time. I consider myself very lucky to have experienced the creative force of Reyn, the creative force of Martin Galway on the C64, and this remix of his tune in particular as interpreted by Reyn. And don't forget to check out cosmiq's remix of this remix which transforms it into yet another amazing interpretation.
